Black plastic HQ minis

These are user contributed images that have been on amazon of all places, for a long time. No idea about the actual product being sold at that time, but they're interesting. Maybe it was one of you here? It comes up under "Hero Quest Game System."

Just for fun, the rest of the (same?) set. Looks like they had a bunch of rare stuff in there too and many duplicates. German version(s) judging by the booklets.

That Battlemasters Ogre keeps popping up his ugly head, so time for my grognard story.

Back in '92 Black Ogres were offered as prizes at the Battlemasters a booth at Gen Con. My two friends and I--always eager for swag--scooped up one each at the end of the convention when things were packing up. I vaguely remember the "ogre maker" which must have been a metal mold from production. You put in your Ogre pieces in each half, closed up the mold, opened it, and Presto! You had an Ogre. Good times.

Can confirm that the story I got for all the ones I bought was indeed connected to the Gen Con, with them being given away/being there to purchase. Seems it was mainly the Ogres and the Men At Arms, but there were probably regular base game minis too. One person also told me he had a base game with black minis, but painted them so not sure it was actually true in that case.

I've seen also a pink plastic dark elf for Warhammer Quest somewhere on instagram. It also comes from some convention or other event.

It was for sale on ebay, apparently the prototypes were cast in pink plastic. Is the same Dark Elf that got into Talisman and that was sold in the classic DE box.

A few years ago I saw a lot on Ebay of HQ orcs in the same gray plastic that the Chaos Warriors were made of.

I was a little suspicious, and asked the seller if they were primed, but he swore they were not. In the end I didn't buy them, but I definitely regret it now.

I've also seen HQ pieces that are in some really bright (almost transparent), more brittle plastic. Certainly outside the norm.

To my knowledge the orcs were never made in grey plastic. As for the black plastic minis.
I am a huge fan of gen Con and try to go every year, and I personally got some of the Black plastic Ogres and Mercenaries
2 years in a roll. The 2cd year they were handing them out by the hand full to get rid of them.
I know one person who ended up with like a hundred of the Mercenaries after 4 days of gaming.

I have seen the black plastic wizards and orcs / femir, but personally never saw any of the others in black plastic.
