Reading more about it, I backed out for now. I'll return if things seem more legit.

Such a shame, I was hoping it would help me reintroduce heroquest to the group since the orgional was deemed to easy for them.

That's what houserules are for ;)
And the Inn is full of them.

GZ made a HQ bootleg and used the 25th anniversary idea and the HQ name as bait.

In NL the average HQ set costs €50, but I got mine for €35,- and it had about 15 spare core minis added. Just look around and be patient :)

Here in the us on Ebay they tend to run for about 100. I got mine when it came out, and bought kellers keep and witch lord years later (never played through all of kellers keep sadly).

Kellar's Keep, although somewhat better and more thematic than most of the original missions, was always a disappointment when held up against Return of the Witchlord. There were a few interesting moments, but most of the quests got repetitive, and it lacked good signature villains, which I think both the original quests and RotWL had. So...you weren't missing all that much by not playing KK. Sorry for being off topic.

Kellar's Keep is a run through the Mines of Moria, basically. There's no signature villains (other than the Durin's Bane analog gargoyle), but there's an absolute crapload of enemies to gun down. Its one of my favorite Quest Packs because of its difficulty. You really need to run it after the main set, however, because without a security blanket of artifacts no band of heroes stands a chance of winning. You have to play through all the Quests back-to-back. If they fail at even one, its Game Over. I've had players get through it at least once.

Conversely, there's nothing wrong with Return of the Witch Lord, but its just not too terribly difficult. Most of the maps are scripted to the point where the players barely have to make decisions. When it does toss in some unpredictable misfortune, it tosses in a lot, however. I love the tomb trap more than any other trap in Heroquest. One of the Quests stages the cover graphics of the base set, so that's something. The final battle can be a good slap-fest, but if the players know which spells and artifacts to have ready going into it, it'll be unremarkable.

I've had 3 parties get through. I always ran this one between the base set and the RotWL. The ton of monsters is very true, but I actually never saw a party actually challenged by much in that pack. (To be fair, RotWL isn't all that challenging when doing it after completion of 24 missions, but the villains were at least memorable.)

I am probably a fair deal more ruthless and calculating than you are when you play. KK is great because there are often more enemies than the heroes can contain to the area where they were encountered. If monsters get freedom to roam on the revealed board the Wizard is going to die. It only takes two orcs one round to kill the Elf if they're lucky, also. If the heroes are given no breaks by the evil wizard, and the evil wizard focuses on killing one hero at a time, KK is practically unwinnable.

You guys run the expansions without letting the heros go to the shop inbetween?

I let them buy potions from the Alchemist.
