I know, I know, I shouldn’t be applying logic to a company that doesn’t seem to have any. They are probably just piling on the nostalgia factor.

Not exactly, they would have not changed them from the previews if they wanted nostalgia because the original images in the campaign said the same as the original box did.

The Adventure Continues

My concern though is will they really sell the base game for $100 and each expansion for only $25?

If the base game is less, then everyone who bought Heroic Tier will be SOL, except for the 4 extra hero and Sir Ragnar.

The prices HASBRO is having WhizKids minis for D&D sold at is a LOT more than that for the amount of minis in each expansion.

I am thinking retail the base game ight be $150 or more, and each expansion is likely to be prices at $50 if it comes to retail.

She's a chemist, she doesn't work for Hasbro. She's got almost 3000 followers. You don't think that maybe one of them is more likely to be Zargon? Your obsession is as bad as your detective skills.

If you looked at the linked YouTube channel, my detective skills suggest Shadzar's got a pretty clear axe to grind. "D&D in name only", "Imminent failure", basically taking a colossal dump on anything Hasbro touches related to the fantasy genre. That doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong though.

They can turn that around, if they want. Just like Disney could turn what's happened to Star Wars around, or any number of other very tone-deaf corporations listening to the clap-back snap-back Twitter-verified blue check blue haired losers as a litmus test for public opinion. The problem seems to be that they haven't yet figured out that Twitter isn't society as a whole, and Twitter's woke moderators have even admitted they take great pains to "curate" the platform to make sure that's true. Oh, you can still find plenty of contrary opinions on the platform—they're just limited and hampered while the more "correct" viewpoints (according to mainstream SJWism) get amplified.

I dunno if that's an opinion the company is willing to hear yet. Guess we'll find out. They may all but destroy a few franchises before they start paying attention though.

Regardless of the price, you could still say the pledgers got the game earlier and possibly with some extras.

The whole point of Hero Quest IS that it comes to retail for the masses to spread the fun far and wide, otherwise it's going to be just another elite collector scalper-friendly novelty item intended to milk nostalgic adults with money to burn only.

I may be cynical about a lot of things, but I think they'd have to be really stupid if they do that, and I would certainly take a dark view of Hasbro from that day forward (and join Shadzar's clan). They don't make money from ebay re-sales, but they would make a bundle selling it in stores, if HQ nostalgia is to be believed. Even if people who never heard of the game were buying it just to do Bard impressions at parties, that's still cash in hand for them!

Are they going to break the molds after this? Or recycle the minis into other games (perhaps a remake of Mighty Heroes, Talisman, Battlemasters or Heroscape)?

My hope is that the dust will settle and we'll all be like "so why was it such a big secret, they did the most logical thing," rather than "what the hell were they thinking."

At this point though I wouldn't take anything for granted. I agree that the verbiage on the box SUGGESTS that it will be just like the old game and it will all be in retail, but it may simply have been done that way to re-create the look of the original. Will they remove the reference in the instruction book to the Wizard needing to save his money for the "powerful magical items" he will be able to buy in future quest packs (or keep the unfulfilled promise in there for nostalgia purposes)? Only time will tell...

I actually think that’s a really good point. I definitely loved seeing it, just as nostalgia, but I hope you’re right. I hope all of the old expansions eventually make it, at least as future Hasbro Pulse campaigns, but I’d prefer wide retail release.
The best thing about HeroQuest is the lifelong unlocks on the imagination.

I can see the picture details better from the original file.

then look at the twitter post linked here and in the video description.

the video at least has music you can listen to. :P

FYI, DA RULES say to limit the number of files you upload, so each attachment of an image that can be linked from twitter is only hurting Ye Olde Inn. and you have to be signed in to see the images, people signed out or not even a member of Ye Olde Inn can click on an embedded video and look at it there or visit the link to the video onsite to read the description for any info that is added there. ;)

OK, I uploaded them on my server and updated the previous post, so they will not afflict the Inn server and everyone can see them, even unregistered members! |_P
the problem is, when you link files from an extarnal website, if that site will change their policy (see imageshack for example) all its linked content will be lost.

I dont disagree, but do understand Ye Olde Inn interest in keeping the bills down for a free website. even Wikipedia has to do donation drives to keep running, but it has a lot more people that use it around the world than Ye Olde Inn probably does.

I just despise vBulletin and phpBB changes in recent years to make it so "unregistered" users can't see attachments. I mean an image posted on a public forum isnt really some hidden secret content, we WANT people to see things like that we share. it isnt like someone is posting images to one of these weak security forums of their credit card statements or bank statements with sensitive info.

Also even the Twitter image could be pulled should the post be deleted. Hotlinking used to be frowned on, but now it is all people want.. the internet is an ever changing place.

___________
as to my skepticism... Yes D&D has a lot to do with it as well as other things HASBRO has done like Ms Monopoly, etc. But a lot is coming from:
1. I have never done one of these kickstarter type things before and seen all the horror stories of unfilled products from them, and this is the same thing as kickstarter even on HASBRO. They haven't failed to deliver YET that i know of, but there was some sort of problem with a Star Wars Jabba's Barge thing from them. So the only reason i went for this is because HASBRO is a big company that can be sued if they try to run away with people's money.

2. We have evidence not only of the D&D connection but the ineptitude and unpreparedness of the "team" during the "Q&A" that showed some canned response from some softball questions, and the fact the had no idea what direction to go and even asked
What other expansions do you all want?
.

and it made that entire thing look like it was not even designed for nostalgia, but a once and done grab for friends of D&D and HASBRO that they have on Twitch D&D channel some times...
https://clips.twitch.tv/StrangeMagnificentJalapenoNononoCat

people that just want to use it for D&D.

3. i didnt even have a thing to argue about in the video, so my comment about the box changes at the top of this page were in agreement that they might be for retail, not nostalgia since the nostalgic previews we got were changed. Though in my video description i did point out both boxes oddly have the save "code" number on them, so that can't possibly be a stock number since KK and RotWL are different product and should have different stock codes, and such if retailers are to order them in the future.

so that dead air for 6 months after they had the money, even though Zargon has been pussyfooting around playing silly buggers this week on Twitter hasnt inspired any additional confidence that they have any clue what they are doing.

HECK!, I didnt even mention the color minis reveal that the minis holder is broken in 3 places on the right side in that photo where you can see the flimsy packaging will not be reusable.

I am trying to give this the benefit of the doubt, but as a skeptic who has seen the things HASBRO and all entertainment industry has done lately... i am not holding my breathe hoping they do it right, but breathing freely and expressing each concern as new info comes... IF it comes since we already saw the boxes for KK and RotWL back in September when the Pulse campaign begin. :|

totally agree... I think people seeing good content is motivated to join the forum. Stealer will always be stealer, they can just register and grab the files with no partecipation.

I had the same feeling at a first look, but I guess (and hope) it is only the light reflection giving that bad effect.

Notably, if drathe decides he likes MyBB more than phpBB 3, I know that MyBB has a module that allows one to upload something to imgur directly from the forum and attach it as an image, so there's that. There might be one directly for phpBB 3 as well—my exploration was only of MyBB to see if we had an upgrade path to it if phpBB didn't suit our needs.

The forum is full of directly-attached pictures that are gone now, sadly. I dunno if drathe's got a better deal on diskspace than he used to have (this site consumes SEVERAL gigabytes before you go anywhere near the forums For what it's worth, I know because … I know it) but at some point there is a limit to what you can put on a hosted machine whose hardware resources are leased.

If you can host your images elsewhere, it really is preferred that you do so. The problem is … the forum is ALSO full of externally linked images that've gone away.

iKarith wrote:(Bunch of interesting website related stuff)

All possible.

One thing of note is that Chaosium has ramped up their sales in preparation of no longer using the name.
https://www.enworld.org/threads/chaosium-chaosiums-heroquest-rpg-titles-to-be-permanently-removed-from-sale-next-month-purchase-while-you-can.680739/

so the confusion found in that thread, may soon be over. I still think it was stupid for someone to piggyback their game off a popular name, which could be a lot of reason people confused the board game we all love here with an RPG. (thats Advanced HEroQuest that failed, then failed again Warhammer Quest)

HeroQuest is Highlander

Technically, HeroQuest was kind of a thing that existed in that world prior to 1989, but … yeah, releasing books for "HeroQuest" AFTER it was a board game that everybody knew about that was published until just a few years ago was likely not an accident. :D
