Heroquest remake by Hasbro - The BIG discussion thread

Discuss general topics relating to HeroQuest that don't fit well in the categories below.

you would propose just keeping this 147 page monster thread going in General discussion for only talking about the rerelease, rather than breaking up the new Hasbro Releases into relevant sub groupings as has been done for all other HeroQuest Products? Why?!

We need to move this discussion out of General Discussion eventually and organize it into subgroupings.
General HeroQuest Discussion
Discuss general topics relating to HeroQuest that don't fit well in the categories below.

that sentence at the end up there is what needs fixing, the new HasbroQuest certainly needs a new category (and subforums related to specific products in that category)
Official HeroQuest 2nd Edition
Topics related to gamesystems and Quest packs released by Hasbro
Subforums: Official rules, Game System, new hero classes, Kellar's Keep, Return of the Witch Lord, Prophecy of Telor, The Spirit Queen's Torment

This is a huge topic that we will be discussing for years to come, we can't just leave it in the general discussion area. It has more than enough merit to generate a new category on the HeroQuest Rooms. For clarity, I am proposing even keeping the rereleases and originals such as Basic system old and new, KK old and new, and ROTWL old and new separate as well as the brand new stuff, which certainly will get their own new tabs anyway.

Oftkilted wrote:So... why haven’t you proposed to take your plan to the logical outcome of this proposal, and split out the other editions from the core “Official HeroQuest releases”?

because they all were released by the same company Milton Bradley during the same game system products run. This Hasbro rerelease or reboot isn't, it is different.

Oftkilted wrote:
So, let’s say that they follow your complex idea and break up the forum into sub-editions.

that isn't what I'm proposing at all, you still are confused.

Oftkilted wrote:If we wanted to talk about the differences between Classic and the new release, what subforum should we use?

The general discussion of course.

Oftkilted wrote:If we’re discussing modifying the new quest chains to use old monsters, do we do it in the old forums, because this is for the 1e NA system ... or does it go under the 2e NA sub forum?

It goes in the HeroQuest Additions section already dedicated to mods and homebrews

Oftkilted wrote:If we keep the current organization, then needing to decide which is the appropriate “edition” because it is a discussion that crosses editions becomes moot.
Why add complexity to a system when it isn’t required?

Simpler is better, and the current rooms/sub-areas already covered the official HeroQuest breakdown.

I am proposing keeping the current organization and complexity, (just adding a new section, which WILL have to happen for the new content anyway) you just aren't seeing it.

You seem confused about how to classify an “Official HeroQuest Release” and where the new quest sub-sections should be located.

You also appear to be describing adding an additional main room at the “HeroQuest Rooms” level.

There is already an “Official HeroQuest Releases” ‘room’ that covers what you’re discussing. Hasbro (who has owned Milton Bradley since 1984) would be covered under that umbrella. (Releases by non-Hasbro companies wouldn’t come under that “Official” heading, as they’re not officially by Milton Bradley or the parent company.)

Under the “Official HeroQuest Releases” there are sub rooms, and there should be an additional “room” created for each of the two new quest books. Then, any discussions about those quest books (lore, conversions etc.) can be discussed there.

As there are already sub-rooms under the Official HeroQuest Releases for discussing official rules and game systems (which between the two would cover any discussions of the new official heroes and rule changes) your request really seems superfluous, and as the forum doesn’t split out releases like that at the current time, it is changing the current forum paradigm unnecessarily.

Adding another root level group, means that instead of just creating a sub-discussion for just the two quests, you would be doing one for the root NA 2nd edition, and then eventually sub discussions for anything released under that 2e banner. Based on their indications, that would cover each of the major quest releases.

The issue being that by forcing unneeded granularity at root level you are causing confusion. “Is this NA 2nd edition an official release by the original manufacturer? If so, why isn’t it with the other releases?”

Your proposal might be logical if the HeroQuest banner had been transferred entirely to a non-Hasbro corporation.

We are square dancing going round and round.
"Official HeroQuest releases" section would have to then be edited to say "released by Milton Bradley AND Hasbro", because the new product isn't or wasn't released by Milton Bradley (even though Hasbro bought MB years ago, that brandname is dead.)

It is the exact same mistake you are making as saying earlier editions of D&D were released by Hasbro (because Hasbro owns Wizards now, which bought TSR)
or current D&D products are being released by TSR ( a long defunct brand name just like MB) neither statement is true.
OD&D released by TSR products
AD&D released by TSR Inc.
AD&D 2nd edition released by TSR Inc.
AD&D 3rd edition released by Wizards of the Coast
D&D 4th edition released by Wizards of the Coast
D&D 5th edition released by Wizards of the Coast (owned by Hasbro)

Official HeroQuest releases (Classic edition) released by Milton Bradley (owned by Hasbro)
Official HeroQuest releases (2nd edition) released by Hasbro

I was hoping that we'd get an extra gargoyle, but if we don't, I'm still happy, the extra dread sorcerer is pretty cool.

It’s was a wild ride. The 3.6M was unlocked leaving the numbers ~$98K short of the alt-sculpt gargoyle.

The final ~24 hours hit $398,623 in sales ... $110k+ in the last 3 hours. Equivalent to ~ 2,657 Mythic Tier Boxes sold in the final day.

Unless there’s numbers to be added in from international sales (not expected) that weren’t already done the Crypt of Perpetual Darkness will be lost in the darkness ...

The final unlock was the Alt-Sculpt Dread Sorcerer at 3.6M
