I guess if you owned the original game you might understand how this isn't a true rerelease of the games system or ROTWL or KK, but a reboot really. Same game name and basic contents sure, but completely redone like any rebooted movie, it is just like a new movie franchise, not the 1st version of the game in a slightly bigger game box. it won't be that compatible with the old game components (unless you can overlook glaring style differences, sizing, materials etc.) and are house ruling any changes to the modern rules.
We won't know for sure just how different they will be from the originals until they get released, but they are different.
Doesn't make sense then to talk about them in the same area for threads for both the old version and the new, we should separate the two editions BEFORE the threads are hopelessly entangled for clarity sakes.
The way I see it we have
Classic Edition (1st edition)
Classic UK/Europe/AUS version
Classic UK/Europe/AUS version fixed
Classic NA version
1st edition: Heroquest game system (maze), HeroQuest game system (Trial), HeroQuest game system (US), HeroQuest advanced Quest, Kellar's Keep (UK, EUR, AUS), Keller's Keep (US), Return of the Witch Lord (UK, EUR, AUS), Return of the Witch Lord (US), Wizards of Morcar (UK, EUR, AUS), Against the Ogre Horde (UK, EUR, AUS), Barbarian Quest Pack/ Frozen Horror (US), Elf Quest Pack/ Mage of the Mirror (US), Adventure Design Kit (UK, EUR, AUS), original magazine published quests and novel quests, and various original foreign language versions.
new Modern Edition (2nd edition)
Hasbro version (revamped or modernized)
2nd Edition: Basic Game system (revamped), Kellar's Keep (revamped), Return of the Witch Lord (revamped), Prophecy of Telor, The Spirit Queen's Torment, [very unlikely unlock] Quest Book by Joe Manganiello.
They are clearly separate editions based on release time (25-32 YEARS DIFFERENCE!), content and style and should have separate areas of the HeroQuest Rooms to discuss each edition.
