We never had to worry about the size of doors or ceiling height before. You can still hit monsters from the bottom of a pit. It just works. Agreed that "big" monsters were a convention of the EQP/BQP that were only released in the US and they have made no indication will be remade. Just makes it easier to flank, I guess...

I am fine with it being a small medieval dragon, as opposed to a modern "D&D" Dragon that is the size of a house (or Godzilla) and thus ridiculous for four guys with axes, a glowy stick and a couple of fireballs to have a reasonable chance of defeating. Unless of course this is like a Quake 1 boss that you kill by hitting a few switches that makes the mountain collapse on it or something. Maybe it will just be a set piece that gets killed by a Deus Ex Machina.

you are forgetting Bard of Laketown felling the dread Smaug with a single shot or the poor beasts in Game of Thrones which both fell to single blows. myriads of fictional dragons get killed by a single heroic blow in the literature spanning ages, and of course who can forget the brave little tailors boast with giants?

whittling down Hit Points with multiple blows in many rounds to kill a dragon originated in Dungeons & Dragons and all of the subsequent derivative video games based directly on D&D game mechanics (practically every video game regardless of genre)

a beast regardless of size is still a living beast with critical vital zones capable of sustaining a mortal wound.
I do hope some thought of practicality went into quest design and a dragon isnt found in a room with a single humanoid sized doorway.

And you have the same situation with dealing with some monsters in the core standard game. For example some monsters can’t be affected by anything other than a specific weapon

Or just defeat the Dragon morally with riddles and negotiation like in a certain adaptation...

Since we don't have Ogres, a 10 body point tank Monster isn't out of the question, though.

Hopefully if the $4MM goals aren't reached they will release it as an expansion for us to order directly or maybe have in stores...

I'd think based on the success on this "kick starter" they'd realize that making more content will only make them more money. Do you think anyone that spends $150 on this wont spend another ~$50 for more content? I know I would

I guess the Manganiellio black dragon is "small" compared to Smaug and the like, but the figure is over 90 mm tall! I guess it could cram onto a 1x2 base in combat as it already can hunch quite a bit. So call it a large monster. Problem is, it is moved on the board like a static chess piece.

I imagine Manganiellio and Hasbro will take the "don't worry about it" approach and just consider the beast to have a one-square footprint on the board. Sigh.

Looking at the numbers, I believe we may reach 4MM.

Here's the thought. Officially, AU, NZ and UK numbers are not yet in. Statistically, the population of AU, NZ and UK represents 25% of the population of US and CA. One could think that overseas amounts may reach around a quarter of US/CA amounts.

Of course, it doesn't mean that it will, due to higher costs for overseas amounts (and a shorter campaign) possibly leading to fewer sales, but this number is better than nothing.

US/CA number have reached 3.045M as of now, going up at a rate of 100k per day (which itself accelerates at 30k per day, per day - from 45k two days ago to 75k yesterday, to over 100k today). If the trend is maintained (big if), we can expect about 130k tomorrow, 160k the day after tomorrow, and 190k the day after that. This is close to 500k (and is 50% close to the saying that the last 3 days have a rush similar to the first day, which was 1M).

From today, adding a bit less than 500k, means that the friday total may get near 3.5M (say 3.4 to be conservative). A 20% overseas rate would add another 680k - enough to bring us over 4.0M.

TL:DR, so far numbers seem to show that the 4.0M is possible, with a few big IFs: that the daily rate of US/CA pledges continues to accelerate like it did the last 3 days, and that the overseas amounts are not yet included, and that they will be around 20% of US/CA numbers.

Thoughts?

We do appear to be on the same “track” (though the reverse) of the sales coming off the initial day. We’re at over 100k in sales for the day and we still have 3 hours to go.

Does he use the stone pillar as a weapon? What if the Heroes aren't tall enough to hit him on top of the pillar. What is it made of? If they push, can they knock it over, causing the Dragon to fall down and the pillar lands on it, killing him? Yeah, I figure it's just a way to make it a single square figure.

If it were me, I'd just make it a two square monster and leave it at that. It's not super hard to understand how to death with such a beast (EQP/BQP).

Is this the part where obsessives who want to find every last "coin" in New Super Mario World are going to donate their life savings (hopefully you don't need it for the next year!) to make the "last" goal happen?

We really don't need anything else. The new stuff won't make the game any better. We can make our own quests and while I might be curious how they control their dragon (how to train it too), chances are it won't be any more revolutionary than anybody else has come up with so far.

How much you want to bet it has a set of spells, and 10 body points? Or it may be like the Witch Lord, where you fight it two different times and only certain things will harm it?

Then maybe it will come back as a good guy. The noble Dragon will be a Hero. Not the one we deserve, but the one we need...

I don't know, it would require a lot more than that to make me want to spend $50 on "new content." So far the "new content" have been some not super great Heroes and a bunch of unnecessary variant miniatures (granted, the female Mummy looks cooler than the default male Mummy, but that's about it... well and the Zombie too but only because of the weapon looking somewhat closer to the original).

If you think about the KK and ROTWL Remake expansions being $25 each, that is basically saying you'd be asking for the content equivalent to two expansions for that amount.

That would be 20 new quests, twenty new cards... many new tiles, and MORE THAN double the monster minis of the original set. We don't even know how many quests are in those 2 books we're getting (and the one that we probably won't get).

Are people forgetting we can make our own quests? Are they forgetting that we already have dozens of free quests out there made by fans that can be played with this new set too?

While it was a cool novelty to get something with Stephen Baker's name on it because he was part of the original design team that wrote Classic HeroQuest, these guys for all I care could just be writers of fan fiction. Experience with creating D&D isn't the same as experience with creating quality Hero Quest. No offense.

If you're willing to spend $300+ on this remake, then you're willing to spend that much on Classic too I would think. Each to their own.

But what are you going to do, "donate" $50,000 to make it happen? You'd be a fool to do something like that. You could literally spend a fraction of that amount and get all kinds of miniatures and stuff from other games and just slap the name "HeroQuest" on it for how authentic it would be. Again, each to their own. But as much as I enjoy this hobby it's not my reason for living, and I don't owe them anything.
