Heroquest remake by Hasbro - The BIG discussion thread

BUT WHERE ARE THE COLORED DICE??

Postby Kurgan » October 28th, 2020, 11:18 pm

[If the goals aren't met, I wouldn't be surprised if the minis still get released in some form or another. After all, the Gamezone minis from the cancelled anniversary project can still be bought, can't they?]

Or better yet...

... and he would truly become the "best thing about Hero Quest Remake." |_P

No. It’s a realization that if you like one thing ... but have never heard of a different thing you might like this different thing.

Not everyone has had an opportunity to play a 30 year old game ... DnD? That’s been around a bit and has fans. And they’d probably like HeroQuest too.

Now they need to remake DragonStrike.... oh wait, nobody actually cared about DragonStrike. :(

It's only fair now that they've hired Stephen Baker... Get him to work on the next edition of D&D.

Seriously though of the recently announced stuff, I'm not interested. Sure, the idea of new Quests are always neat. New tiles? Sure, okay. But the slightly different pose for the Fish man, the "Dread" Warrior with a sword instead of a mace, the slightly different Gargoyle (is this my WISHED FOR female Gargoyle?) and the female "Dread" Sorcerer... far less exciting than what we got before.

While I'm curious about any new quests and this "dragon's" stats and abilities (whatever they might be, if any), it's not a reason to buy for me.

Give me colored dice... give me new equipment... give me a Cleric, Paladin, Mystic, Ranger... the Ogre Horde... Mage of the Mirror, Wizards of Zargon... Frozen Horror... the Dark Company.
Where are the Ogres? Men-at-Arms? They could have created one of those Quest packs by now, is it a licensing issue? Did they just not want to print that many new cards?

Only Kellar’s Keep and RotWL use just the models from the base game. All of the others would require additional models and be officially redone. As many were only released in either NA or EU versions.

Yeah, I'm thinking along the lines of "they created all this extra content, they were on their way to completing a remake of one of the newer expansions..."

Is this right?
13-17 new cards [3 spells plus for new heroes, plus an extra turn card for bonus alternate wizard... plus for gender swap heroes. ]
13-21 (9-15 unique) new minis [new Zombie (x2), Skeleton (x2), Orc (x2), Goblin (x2), Warlock, Druid, Sir Ragnar, "Mentor," Witch Lord] + more if we reach other goals: new Mummy (x2), Bard, new Gargoyle, new Sorcerer, new Abomination (x2), Dragon
1-3 new quest books (we have no idea how many actual quests are in there, at least 2 per "book" minimum, of course 2 are at 3 and 4 million goals which may or may not be reached)
possibly new tiles (no idea how many, if we reach the $4mill mark, which is debatable, but at bare minimum 2...)

As curious as we all are about the new content yet to be revealed, I'd personally have rather loved to see a bug-fixed remake of the EQP/BQP, ATOH, Dark Company, Wizards of Morcar/Zargon...
sure, they were more rare and probably less "nostalgic" to players, but still. Or they could have adapted the Legacy of Sorasil stuff (its mostly D&D derivative, but they own that too and they even have people who worked on D&D on the team, so why not?)

Is it some kind of licensing issue? So we get "Dread" instead of Chaos and "Abominations" instead of Fimirs. Surely Gamesworkshop doesn't own the exclusive rights to "Ogres."

Now if we wanted to do WOM... we will have four unique "evil Wizard" miniatures potentially (3 reached so far).

The remade Kellar's Keep might be different to the original one; after all, the official description is different, and yet the description for RotWL is the same (and a spoiler for new players coming into the game).

Hmm. We know there may be minor changes to the rules and Quests, but they said everything will essentially be the same as the US versions.

They likely dont even have a physical copy available to look at to evaluate let alone reproduce. WOM, AtOH and HQAdvanced Quest with Dark Company expansions are rare in the US, most US original HeroQuest players have never seen them in person or don't even know about them. I personally didnt even know they existed until 20+years later and it took me a few years to acquire two of each complete and in good shape watching international eBay closely.
Meanwhile EQP and BQP have skyrocketed in resell price so even though they are usually up on ebay they probably didnt want to drop $1200+ just to have a look at them for a kick starter. Again many U.S. players didn't own them either having come out a few years later, while the majority of owners of the original game DID have KK and RotWL.

I do hope they eventually rerelease all of the original quests, but I am doubting we will ever see more than has already be announced. We might never even see some of that; I seriously doubt they hit 4mil.

They want to keep this a Haslab exclusive like Jabbas Sailbarge toy. As far as I know there hasn't been any previous Haslab products released for sale at stores after the original buy in period. So it likely won't ever become a new product line for Hasbro (although it most certainly should!) to continue developing products for. This game most likely won't ever be on the shelf at retailers or game stores unless original backers of the kickstarter put their own up for resale, Ive seen a few game stores do that before for board games, back a fundraiser then resell several copies in their store.

They don't even sell that stuff on their own websites outside of the US--their standard US website has a hell of a lot more on it than the UK or French ones do, which tells me that their official corporate policy is to invest the bare minimum of money into operations, in order to get at least some passive income from people wanting to buy Connect Four and the like.

If it hadn't been for those specific retailers stepping up, Hasbro would've ignored the whole shitstorm over us filthy foreigners not being allowed to buy the game.
