I wonder if these concepts were designed for both Warhammer and HeroQuest games because the Stone Troll models and Forest/Night Goblin giant spiders for GW's Warhammer are very similar in design.
Both have had plastic and metal figure releases over the years and could be used for HeroQuest but their bases are larger than a single hallway space I'm afraid.

I think the miniatures for the unreleased HQ suck and are likely the reason they weren't made. Not a good fit stylistically with any previous HQ figures. They look to be still in the concept design stage rather than ready for production.

The US expansions Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs feature miniatures designed by other sculptors. I can recognize the same sculptor's hand of the Barbarian Quest Pack miniatures in many of this unreleased pieces.
Citadel or GW was not involved at all with the US-only releases.

I was looking through the WizKidz catalog and I saw a number that reminded me of some of these characters. I know, "generic fantasy creatures" and all that. Lots of cross pollination between Pathfinder, D&D and Warhammer/Battlemasters/HeroQuest.

Collect ALL of them.. are you serious???

Or these... just for fun if you were looking for close equivalents from that line.

I agree we're looking at a (rock) troll. Elementals and stone golems don't wear fur clothing. I believe it (or they) would fit in a Dwarf Quest Pack set in or under a mountain.

I'm less sure about the footprint of the spider. The legs flaring to the side are a problem, as Hero Quest minis should always fit through a one-square door. I'm inclined to believe a 1x1 base would work best with large spiders. However, Giant Wolves exceed their bases by quite a bit, so a 1x2 base might have worked, too.

As for that creature, I'm stumped as to why a base was abandoned. If you reference the other picture of it, you can see the head is about the same width as the feet flaring at the front (note the shadow that reveals most of the body is hidden behind the head.) I estimate the beasts length was to come in at about 3 inches from head to tail. That would set the feet apart at either end of a 2 inch base (if one were used.) Like a Giant Wolf, I think it would have counted as a 1x2 figure. I'd also say the front base worked out to about 3/4 of an inch wide. Seems stable enough to stand, if a bit tipsy, in my opinion.

Thanks Daedalus,
For the more direct reply to my overall question in this post. Sorry it took me sometime to respond to it.

I'm not sure if I have ever heard of a Rock Troll before and if I have it was more than likely just something I had seen in passing while looking through an old mini catalog or a mini site. I've heard the term (elemental) golems before but I know nothing about them either. So for the origanal post I seen on one of the Heroquest Facebook sites it said that the Rock Troll should have come from the Dwarf pack as you thought. As well as these minatures: (New) male dwarf and the female one, Carrion crawler, Rhino dog thing.

Though to be honest I'm not sure what a Carrion crawler is or does either.

As for the Spider I'm guessing it would be a giant one the that post did not say that. that's why I was more leaning towards the 1x2 figure size. The legs flaring to the side don't really bother me as I like the way the Spider looks and if that is the way they would have planned it then I guess that was the way it was meant to be lol.

As for the Carrion crawler, I was stumped to why the base was abandoned (or in the case of the Rhino dog it's these but has those half moon cut outs all around it, odd) too. I think it would have counted as a 1x2 figure also. I mean it would have to based on it's size. It would defently blen in beter with the over all game if these to did have a base under them like the rest of the minis.

Also that Facebook post said following the pattern that previously 5 figs were in each pack this would be his best guess (I could be way off) as to what mini's would have gotten to what pack. From his best guess these would have been the minis from the Wizard pack:
Female sorcerer
Minotaur
Spider
Skaven
Sabretooth tigar

That rhino dog thing as you call it is new to me as well. Not sure of any other equivalent out there. It's a bit like a chinese gargoyle but with the head of a warthog with the horns of a rhinoceros instead of a dog/lion head.

Unless there's something like it in the back catalog of previous Citadel miniatures that were part of Warhammer fantasy...

More snippets of the past to possibly inspire fans to create what "might have been!"

See now if Hasbro has the rights to this stuff, if they "finished" what was started but never released, I'd be interested in that. Did they not release it because it was all trash or because HeroQuest just wasn't popular enough anymore to justify it?

They weren't released for both reasons. Hero Quest's sales were lagging as kids moved on to the next New Thing. And if I recall correctly, Hasbro was disappointed with the models. I believe that was mentioned by Skyknight as part of his reveal.
