It's not necessarily so much as the company's behavior. The fact is that they were running a kickstarter for
HQ and news made its way here, of course. They had several backers already, and people were simply
trying to get some actual information from the company about the game...what it might be, what might
be included...how they planned on making quest books and rules and such (let's face it...Gamezone is a
miniature company, not a game publishing company). Those people couldn't get any answers, which left
a real bad feeling about what was going on.
The other issue...a MAJOR issue...is that they were going to be selling here in the U.S. Now, I'm not an expert,
but if a company in the U.S. holds a trademark for a name (that being HeroQuest), then anyone else wanting
to sell something in the U.S. by the same name would have to get permission and pay royalties and such.
Gamezone tried to make everyone believe that they held the trademark for the name - which they might in...
where are they based? Spain, I think? They do not here in the U.S. Here in the U.S. Moon Design Publishing holds
that trademark. So, once all of that information came out, Gamezone tried to backtrack...didn't even appear
sorry that they tried to steal a trademark. Of course, Kickstarter canceled their campaign. Those who had already
backed them had not gotten any information from them about what was going on, if I remember correctly.
So...really, if a company wants to act like a jerk company...yeah, that's on them. It was made very obvious that
this company has no clue what they are doing and so most of us here at the inn want nothing to do with them. Then
add into the fact that we here at the inn LOVE heroquest dearly and when a company ends up dragging the name
through the mud like they did, well, that's grounds for a fight as far as we are concerned.
