in terms of this game...wasnt it partner owned by GW and MB? so the fact they have the right to the rules and name. has nothing to do with the fact that GW wont let people use fimir's and maybe also the board layout?
ill be interested in 12 months time to see what people think of it (after all those concept shots are not the finished articles and could change)
but in terms of adopting. its not heroquest is it? its no different in my mind as any other dungeon crawler. the figures and furniture would probably get used. but the rest i think will probably end up being pretty much standalone to this 25th anniversary edition

Given the current reaction to the KS I would guess that the adoption rate will be close to 0.

Thrawn wrote:When writing new campaigns, modules, and house rules, will it be worthwhile to write them with the assumption that people will have the 25th, or should they only be written using the originals?

GZ have said this in one of their updates

Will the game mechanics be the same as the original? Can you provide information about possible changes?
The Spirit of the original is very present, but the mechanics are being optimized

So in theory it will make no difference if someone has the original or the 25th :?
I share torilen's concerns that the rules will be changed just enough to make HQ & HQ25 incompitable. Either way, I will only ever write material to expand the game I own, and at the moment it is very unlikely I will ever own HQ25.

Thrawn wrote:With the expanded stuff, there are 15 new characters though we know nothing of them, and anything from stretch goals.

Basically, these different items open up new things to use in quests without people having to bring in outside materials.

I still would view using HQ25 as 'bringing in outside material' and would much prefer create and balance material myself. e.g. If you have created a Paladin for HQ and one of the 15 new characters in HQ25 is a Paladin, would you immediately throw your Paladin in the bin and use GZ's? I know I wouldn't

EDIT: Ampersand posted while I was typing!

Exactly ;)

1) I think the response here at least has gotten me over "If I don't buy this, is it going to prevent me from using modules and house rules others are putting on yeoldeinn. Part of my question was whether this was going to end up being a "must back" in order to keep up here.

2) If it was adopted however, it could give us a new framework to adopt from.
-Standardized stats for new monsters, instead of each of us adding in our own.
-Standardized new traps to use.
-Standardized new heroes.
-Standardized advancement schemes.
I wonder if optimizing from this new platform would have advantages over optimizing from the original?

Right now we do a lot of individual development without real standards. I know there has been push to add some standards, but I think that has been a difficult project as well.

At least here, there doesn't seem to be very positive feelings towards it, for one reason or another. In terms of new fan material, I don't think this will really show up on the radar. Too many people have the original game (or personal remakes of it). Furthermore, the extremely volatile legal status of 25th means that we probably won't see it again after the KS campaign concludes. Although it has large backer support, it's basically going to be a special branch of the game all to itself.

That being said, it wouldn't be too hard to make things work with the new or old game (depending which way things go). It's possible though that 25th could include too many new things for people to bother making new material completely compatible with it.

The thing is though, the orgional unless you already have it is hard to come by cheaply. Also as much as I love it, it does have some glaring flaws, such as difficulity. It needed a reboot. And let's face it, due to the age and lack of availablity of the game's orgional form, we arne't a huge community. I don't know about you, but it's hard to get a group for stuff like this. This newer game might be just what we need to get some popularity going. Unless it's sucks of course.

@ 1) I can't see this happening. I see HQ25 as pretty much it's own thing.

This will be no more "must-own" than all the other minis and board tiles all of us is adding here and there.
I wouldn't ever write a quest demanding to have specific parts from another game. Heck, I don't even see the expansion monsters represented very often in home brew quests.

Fullork is right though. HQ does need some sort of revival. The parts will become more and more rare and the players fewer and fewer.

Certainly a LOT cheaper than HQ25...

Now that 25th has been shut down for the time being...maybe it's time to get a Ye Olde Inn 25th anniversary pdf edition together.

Most certainly. I'm already thinking of stuff. Actually, I think the Ragnar chronicles would make a good questpack.
But a collection of quests from everyone at the Inn would also be cool. 1 quest each, with a main storyline perhaps?
Just make a quest, post it, and the next person picks it up from there and continues the storyline.
When we have en 25, we add them, edit them, pick a title, and create 1 big awesome pdf! Ye Olde 25th Heroquest a Anniversary Questpack!

Original 4 heroes are a must. Quest items may be introduced.

Most base sets I see going for 80 to 100, sometimes more.

But wow, just saw it was shut down, any idea what they did? I thought they had gotten rights to the game?
