I had HQ as a teen - but never really played much. A friend of mine played it with me, but we spent a lot
of time using TSR's trading cards with it, turning it more toward D&D style, rather than playing the quests.

My daughter wanted to join a Friday Night Magic club so took her to a comic shop called Lost Legion in a different city. She played Magic for a little while and was happy she was surrounded by fellow nerdy-geek types like ourselves. And these kids were in their teens to 20's. She was the youngest player in the shop and they liked her. However, I brought up HeroQuest, which the older kids new of but the younger ones had no clue what I was talking about. So, I brought both copies of HQ and let them try it out. I can honestly say, I ruined Friday Night Magic for the shop. It got pretty bad because at least 10 to 20 people every Friday night were playing HQ instead of throwing Magic cards. It was pretty cool. The older kids were having childhood flashbacks and the younger kids were having blast with something "new".

Yep, same here. We implemented those old AD&D character cards in somehow or another. My cousin always had the cool new stuff, like Dragon Strike so we usually mixed and matched HQ with those things to come up with some crazy elaborate quest.

Did I hear someone say NES/videogames?
That's -besides football, 70s/80s music & Sci-Fi (Star Wars, Star Trek, Buck Rogers etc)- one of my biggest hobbies.
I've been playing since 1983 (Philips G-7000 (Odyssey2 for the US folks), Atari 2600 & 7800, NES...80's machines are the best)

Sjeng wrote:Well, I bought my first SNES back in unversity, secondhand, with Mario World, allstars, kart and some other games. I always went to a friend to play :P
I did however own a C64 too, with a cassette player and a home made cartridge for extra memory and cheat options :P
Then I had an Amiga 500, with 3.5" floppys. That thing was amazing!

This topic is quickly turning into nostalgia road...

Sjeng: you missed the Retro Game Con this weekend in Eindhoven. Still: there are more to come: http://www.spelcomputermuseum.nl/?page= ... page=shows AND: http://www.dr-retro.com/beurs/

My early years of gaming was rife with sanctimonious people trying to save my soul, and is best not recounted in detail.

@chaoticprime-
We forgive them. ;)

I'm originally from Chicago, the land of Steve Dhal, champion of the 80's anti-disco movement. :barbarian: COHO! You'd have to have been there to understand.

Later in the 90's, Hero Quest provided the means for my core D&D group of twenty-somethings to include our other friends in a game together. Waaay more interesting than Monopoly. I am in no way surprised that an imaginative, light game that worked for a group of adults back in the day still works for adults today. Nostalgia has a useful purpose--we retain what is worthwhile.

allright. Let's not hijack this topic and turn it into a nostalgia trip. Back on topic, okay? ;)

Vangelis was also pretty cool though. But I love ALL 80's music. Even Italodisco.
