This would be a drawback in some instances, yes. Especially those quests where "time is of the essence"
and the GM constantly has to remind the heroes of that.

My thinking is, though, would heroes really leave a dungeon if they knew for a fact that some monsters
were still there. I could understand if they simply did not explore the whole area - maybe for fear of what
they might find (hint hint - if the heroes already accomplished the goal, and keep going through a LOT of
areas, you could throw something really menacing at them) - but if there were a couple of goblins or orcs
still alive, and they knew it...I don't think they would leave them there.

...
...
Of course, another draw back to a kill-style reward system - just throwing this out there as food for thought -
if your group does a lot of actual role-playing...perhaps you include a few goblins or orcs who want to talk or
reason with the heroes instead of simply fight to the death. The heroes might not even attempt that...and
then the game turns into "hack and slash".

WHICH - this is what HQ was designed as...but they offer so much story and back ground...and we have all
added so much to it here on the inn, it is just begging to be turned into a pseudo role-playing game, where
not everything is meant to be slaughtered.

...
...
Knightcrawler has a good idea there...offers up some possible penalty for lingering to long to kill things.

...
...
TYPING THIS IN BOLD SO THAT IT IS SEEN WELL - make sure to check out any threads about advancement.
A lot of us here at the inn agree that a good advancement system is by using the number of quests completed.
Be sure to check that out and think about that...it is nice and fair, it offers the chance to give great rewards
to the players, and it avoids the issues dealt with in this topic.

Just a thought.

Based on the knightkrawler suggestion, the idea would be to examine the monster's body after he was dead then.
Maybe we can do something interesting from there.

@washi-
Welcome to the Inn. I for one wouldn't mind a copy of that terrible Brazilian edition.

Tasoe's point is a good one, but if you want coin rewards go ahead with it. There are measures Morcar/Zargon can take to discourage such negative behavior:

  • If a kill isn't in line with the Quest objective, deny or halve the coin reward.
  • Include roleplay opportunities as Torilen mentioned. Those opportunities can offer greater rewards than a kill.
  • Anybody involved in a kill gets to throw a combat die for each BP of damage inflicted. The greatest number of Skulls gets the full reward. In the case of a tie more dice thrown win, and in the case of an equal-dice tie the last hit loses.

I for one would love to have a mint copy of the Brazilian game and expansions. I really want to put high resolution scans of the cardboard miniatures on the homepage. Want one of those Japanese games too... and a translator. ;)

I had a brazilian edition 13 years ago but, because some reasons, I threw away... (You can call me names)
There is some sellers on http://www.mercadolivre.com.br (a kind of brazilian ebay) that sells the game for a price between $150 and $400, but I think they don't international shipping. But, if you want, we may try something...

You do know that quests 1 through 8 of the Japanese system have been translated by one majikayo, no?

I guess I'm the only brazilian here, right?
I'm searching for the Quest Book of Kellar's Keep expansion in portuguese (that was released here, in Brazil, by the way) but I don't find...
I've the Return of Witch Lord but Kellar's Keep is missing. Someone know where I can find it?

Ye Olde Inn is not only a forum, but also a website with VAST resources. Check this out: http://www.yeoldeinn.com/br-introduction.php you will fid EVERYTHING there is to have in every language drathe could gather. Unfortunately, I just noticed drathe has not found a brazilian questbook :(

So... perhaps you could translate the english booklet into portuguese yourself, and then send the translation to drathe, so he can create a booklet from the translated texts, and put it on the site? Just a thought :)

Now, please let's stay on topic. If you need info on any topic: first use the SEARCH function to see if a topic already exists. If not, create a new topic in the best suited subforum. Thanks!
