Re: Mage of the Mirror Treasure that should be artifacts?

I reassign a few Treasure Cards to Artifacts, and a number of Artifacts Cards to common treasure. On top of that, I have new Treasure Cards (two or four Spell Scroll! cards and eight Potion! cards) that provides a random draw from the Spell Scroll or Potion deck. This allows me to expand my the treasure deck with more variety, without stuffing the deck, while also limiting the number of scrolls and potions the Heroes can get on a single Quest.

With that, I made the Treasure without Doom spell scroll apart of the Spell Scroll deck, and thus become common treasure. As I'm not a fan of the Werewolf rules as written, I have no use for the Wolfsbane Potion. Given how one-off the Air Walk Shoes and Elven Cloak of Passage are, I would make them common treasure like Anti-Poison Quill and Dust of Disappearance in my games. Save for the Bone Wand and Sky Orb, the rest of the MitM Artifacts are too tied to the Elf, with a number of them making the Elf over-powered.

On the topic of Hero-centrist adventure...

I make the four spell scrolls from Frozen Horror a part of the Spell Scroll deck; I changed Poison! so that the it takes a Body Point that can only be healed with Anti-Poison Quill or Venom Antidote (as per my rule on poison damage); and Potion of Magic Resistance and Potion of Warmth (along with a Wizards of Morcar-inspired Potion of Fire Resistance) are added to the Potion deck.

ANY Artifact can end up in the Treasure deck (so to speak) if the Heroes die and lose it in the previous adventure. Zargon is supposed to re-introduce the lost Artifact as a special treasure early in the next quest (and if they are replaying a quest, then it is modified anyhow). Same would go for an Artifact they were supposed to get (that will be necessary to complete a future quest) but somehow missed when they exited the quest. That's via the NA rules anyhow (someone feel free to quote the relevant portion if you don't trust my memory!). So when that happens I put the card on the very top (or near the top) of the treasure deck, but I guess you could put it on the side and designate a certain room, the instructions don't tell you precisely how to do that so its Zargon's call.

The "Artifacts that get used up" (Fire Ring, Elixir of Life, etc) is an NA convention, but technically some Artifacts can get destroyed under the EU rules too and as before, the Hero holding it could die and have his stuff be claimed by monsters.

But yeah, there must be a call for having a lot of Elven Cloaks of Passage in the ultra-hard Elf Quest Pack, so no argument there.

For my homebrew rules I've utilized the "random potion" and "random spell scroll" cards into my Treasure deck, to get some more use out of those two custom decks, so there's 2x chance of each in the Treasure pile each quest. I decided the "Poison" and "Ruined Scroll" cards will only be "honored" when its through a Treasure draw, rather than when the Quest book specifically calls for a random scroll draw (then it was always intended to be something good) or between quests as I do within my heroic upgrade system.

Like others, using the order I am playing the quests, I "unlock" the various assets as each new quest pack is entered, so the pile of potential spell scrolls and choosable spells grows... (rather than limiting it to the GS and the particular quest pack being played only).
