Looking at the Elf Spell cards, I have noticed some things now that I have actual cards, and not looking at PDFs or printouts.

Timestop: This spell seems useless at first. You are basically trading one attack you could make to allow someone else to make an attack instead. I feel the spell has some situational value to a creative player. The spell could be used in cramped conditions or if the Elf cannot move far enough to attack something, you could give someone else a turn in your place. Another possible use could be casting this spell while using the Wand of Magic. I’m sure there are a lot of weird combos that could come about. Maybe Hypnotic Blaze, then Timestop, after which the Elf could attack or do something else.

Disappear: The target of this spell wearing regular Plate Mail could have the spell last indefinitely, since you cannot roll high enough for the spell to fail. You could scout out the entire map without fighting or triggering traps. I’m not sure how useful this would be, since each room revealed would then be active, and most quests require you to kill a particular target, or search and find a particular item, and escaping alive. Its like a Rescue or Sir Ragnar situation except that all the monsters will still be alive when you choose to end the spell.

In regards to Timestop, you're giving up your action to give another hero an action and movement, so already it's a bit more powerful then Swift Wind, which gives the hero only an extra movement. The Barbarian may be better equipped then the Elf and his attacks are preferred against bigger monsters.
Plus it adds to make some interesting combos, if you play this on a character under the spell Courage or Future Sight (From Wizard's of Morcar). So unless you're working a solo quest, it's pretty much a decent spell.

Disappear is a bit more convoluted... It doesn't specify anything about Elven Boots either, when you can potentially roll higher then 12.
Many spells of this quest pack need a wider range of specification, that a l Zargon would need to make judgement calls on:
Twist Wood, what part of a monster's weaponry is made of wood? What monster holds a staff? Sinestra?
Hypnotic Blaze, does it work on the undead? If sleep can't effect them I don't see why ths should.
Disappear: can you pass through monsters like Veil of Mist?

I really feel they should've divided the spells into sets of 3:
Time Spells: Flashback, Timestop & Slow
Illusion Spells: Hypnotic Blaze, Double Image & Disappear
Nature Sells: Deep Sleep, Twist Wood & (add a healing spell)

Yeah, WD, if I recall correctly the draft notes actually did divide them up just like this. Grouping them thus would help the Hero make a decision (with no direction the Elf has to take more time to weigh the options and risks coming up with a bad combination), but would negate the strategic utility of mixing and match. You could also make them random draws!

One way I may use the Elf spells is to keep the "one set of elemental spells" for a Champion Elf (3-5 quests complete) but give him the option to pick one of the Elf spells to go along with them (or else the original option which was three spells of the same group + 1 random spell scroll) and then make it two extra cards for "knight" level (10+ quests completed).

About 3 weeks ago, roughly. (NA South East).

1 From Amazon and 1 from Big Bad Toy Store.

I ordered the amazon set long after ordering from BBTS, but received the Amazon order first, despite ordering from BBTS the day it was available.

For whatever that's worth. Basically I was testing the differences in speed and service between the two web stores.

Thanks, just heard! Appreciate the updates HispaZargon & Eudoxio! v1.7

I see as promised, they put the Frozen Horror mercs as hireable in the group quests for MOTM in the app.

I see the Elf pack has pretty pink fog (to complement the blue fog for the barbarian pack and the green for the others). They put a sub section under hero profiles called "Use Special" that lets you use Treasure and Equipment (not just Artifacts). Some things are missing (I don't see Spell Scroll Treasure Without Doom).

Elven Cloak of Passage: if any hero besides an Elf tries to use it says "no line of sight." It also doesn't let you walk through blocked squares (whereas the Spell Scroll Pass Through Rock does) and has the same sensitivity in terms of automatically dying if you happen to leave your finger off the cursor when walking into "solid rock."

The other artifacts, etc. and Elf Spells appear in the other packs, which is nice. Again the honor system is required for many things but leaves room for homebrew and different interpretations of things. Will be interesting to see how dread spells are handled in the final quest. Looks like these categories were added specifically for the MOTM new items.

They added a "spell break" button, probably for debugging.
