Puck & Oberons Friday Dungeon

Postby SonandDad » May 25th, 2011, 6:32 am

Continuing their trek through Puck's Lost World our gallant hero's are cautiously following a trail through a forest when they hear movement ahead. Careful observation reveals that there is a small band of Orc's obviously intent on an important destination.

Still using caution they follow them, and are lead to the Inn of The Screaming Skulls.

Entering the Inn we are faced with 2 closed doors. Which to open first? The choice is made and we find 2 skeletons, which are quickly dispatched and a locked door.. Not this way then. The other door is opened and.... a cupboard. Leaving Zanfya Greybeard to check the cupboard, Brocanon the barbarian opens the door to find 2 Spirit Riders guarding their tombs. As the door opens, the cupboard doors behind Zanfya also open to reveal a Chaos Warrior who immediately attacks our brave wizard. Missed. With space restricted by the layout of the room the other members of our party cannot help this time. The fast reaction of Zanfya and his staff fells the Warrior, now to remove the black skeletons!
Image0123.jpg

Brocanon attacks with the Spirit Blade, 4 skulls are thrown; the Rider defends with… 1 black shield, the survival die is thrown, a shield, the 1st Rider succumbs. The brave barbarian decides to hold the door way to protect his fellow hero’s and the 2nd Rider attacks with 3 skulls; Brocanon defends with 1 white shield. 2 BP down. Again the Spirit Blade slashes through the air but the wounds received prove to be too much and it misses. “Move” cries Valinar the elf “let me in”, Brocanon stumbles from the door and Valinar lets fly with his Elvin Bow, which proves as deadly accurate as ever. 3 skulls cannot be defended by the Rider and a black skull shows with the survival dice. The riders are defeated. Time to move on.

The door is opened to find the Ice Witch. She immediately cries some magic incarnation and a shower of Ice Shards fly at Brocanon. Another BP gone. He spins with broadsword in hand and the Ice Witch loses 1 BP.
Image0124.jpg

Again Valinar and his bow comes to Brocanon's rescue. 3 Skulls for the bow, no shields for the Witch. She is gone. Through the door, down the passage to find another 2 Spirit Riders. Again Brocanon leads the way with the Spirit Blade. With Morgusson of Halmere, watching the rear, as the band’s Ranger, in case the band of Orcs that were followed into this Inn suddenly appear. Our heroes are trapped between the Riders and their tombs and a fierce battle commences. Attack dice fly, skulls show, defence shields show, survival skulls appear, three rounds ensue yet none of the battlers loses a BP. Exhausted Valinar drops to a knee and thrust upwards with his Orc's Bane (the only close quarters weapon the he carries) yet the Rider cannot defend himself from this change of tactics and falls. The extra room allows Brocanon a better and more powerful arc for the Blade and his Rider drops as well. Zanfya checks the Tomb and yet another Chaos warrior sneaks out at him. 3 skulls show for the Warrior with his sneak attack, Zanfya defends with 2 White Shield’s and counters with his staff, 2 skulls, The Warrior defends but only a single black shield shows, again the wizard prove his ability to look after himself in close combat (must be a disciple of Gandalf the Grey)
Image0125.jpg

Opening the door into the centre room, all that is there is a table upon which is found a skeleton key. A search for traps and secret doors reveals that this is a dead end, so back we go to the locked door. Morgusson (the key holder) unlocks the door which immediately crashes back to show the passage way is occupied by a Wraith.
Image0126.jpg

Brocanon attacks with the Blade, misses, the Wraith Stumbles back and forgets the words of his spell and the Blade flashes again, 4 skulls appear and the Wraith is unable to defend (another four skulls!!) and, like a slain vampire, is reduced to a pile of ash.

Into an empty room, a little treasure is found and a secret door creeps open, The Master of the Spirit Riders is there, the formidable Graveyard Keeper!

The Keeper casts Strengthen Un-dead and his defences increase to 5 die and now has 5 BP. Our hero’s all have space to surround him and attack. To be fair the Graveyard Keeper defends with power and dexterity, yet the sustained onslaught proves to be too much even for him and he is sent back into his tomb.

The sun is setting and showdows lengthen as door is opened and a Chaos Sorcerer is waiting!
Image0128.jpg

It seems that this Inn is the meeting point for the powerful magic bearers of Morcar's army.

The Sorcerer proves to be the most powerful of all with the Tempest stopping Morgusson in his tracks. He nimbly avoids the others attempt to stop him and casts Fear on Brocanon, again he sidesteps the attempts of Zanfya and Valinar. This time a Cloud of Chaos is spoken by the Sorcerer and only the magical ability of Zanfya is able to resist this powerful spell. It is down to who is stronger with their magical ability, not the brute force of weapons that will decide this battle. Zanfya starts to recite his own Magic, The Sorcerer laughs…. Yet the ruse works and again our wizard reveals his ability with the wood, the staff drops the Sorcerer to his Knees, Unable to defend (all white shields appear) our hero swings and the trusty Staff finishes the encounter. Removing the Black Magic that stopped his fellow travellers, Zanfya leads the way out of the room.

Stopping for breath, in an empty room, searches reveal a horde of treasure and another Chaos Warrior hiding. It misses and is quickly dispatched. Opening the door, the way out of this place of Morcar’s Magic is found, yet it is guarded by yet another Warrior. Zanfya, realising the bands exhausted state, uses the Tempest to halt the impending attack. Morgusson decapitates the stranded Warrior with his Snake Whip.

Our faithful four survive (just) and head off to hide up and recuperate, before their next challenge to escape this World is revealed. With his eyes nearly closed, desperate for sleep, Morgusson asks quietly. “Where did that band of Orc’s go?”

Puck is Morcar (he wrote the Lost world quests)

Drinks were Juice (he is only 10) and I think that the scantily clad Ice Witch is more than enough for young puck to chew on. No doubt that will change within a few short years :!:

Having rested in the forest over night, our band of four continue their journey through The Lost World. The path they follow out of the forest leads up a narrowing canyon. At the end there is a cave. They enter, barely able to see in the deepening gloom, they finally stumble on some steps hewn from the very rock itself, they climb and find them selves at the top of some stairs and in front of them they see 4 doors, One has a large steel lock. Which to open 1st, they whisper between themselves, yet they cannot agree. Is this the first sign that the stress of this unforgiving place they are in is getting to them??

They part and go to open 1 door each, the dissent within the ranks is starting to tell and no checks for traps, Brocanon sets of a spear trap and loses a BP. Morgusson checks (reavealing that every door was protected by one) then guards the rear ready to aid where required. Behind Brocanon's door wait 5 Orc’s and in behind them 2 of the dreaded Karate Orc's “That’s where the X!*Xgers" went Morgusson mutters to himself.
Zanfya's door reveals 2 more Karate Orc’s, another Orc and a treasure chest. Finally Valinar finds 5 goblins and the blinding Silverdisc himself.
Image0133.jpg

Brocanon tries from long range with the sling-shot and rolls 2 white shields, Zanfya then tries with his trusty staff but the Orc defends, Valinar attacks and the first goblin falls to the thrust of his spear. Morgusson goes to aid Brocanon first, and rolls three skulls with the snake whip; an Orc succumbs. The goblins surround Valinar who has to defend furiously with the blinding effect of Silverdisc's “dome “in his eyes, Silverdisc missed yet his underling hits with 1 skull that Valinar didn’t see coming “Damm that bonce is bright” he mutters.

A Karate Orc cuts off Brocanon from Morgusson, attacks but misses. The other attacks Morgusson yet also misses. “Trained in the fine arts of the east. I think not", Morgusson baits them, then swings the mighty Orc’s Bane, The first attack throws 1 skull but the White Orc defends, the second attack throw all shields, “Oops, should of kept my mouth shut” he thinks!!

Meanwhile another White Orc attacks Zanfya, again it misses. An untrained one throws 2 shields and a skull but the wizard dodges, strait into a 3 skull hit form the other and only manages 1 white shield. .

The hero’s regain their composure and move together, but they are pushed back under the ferocious onslaught of the green monsters. They manage to battle their way into just 1 room to create a bottle neck to slow down the green tidal wave. There they begin to pick them off.

The final tally:-

Brocanon – 1 Karate Orc, 2 Orc’s and a goblin.

Zanfya – 1 Karate Orc and 1 other.
Valinar – 3 goblins and an Orc.
Morgusson with his superior Ranger skills plus the “Orc’s Bane” – 2 karate Orc’s,
3 Orc’s and
Silverdisc. (4BP)

The search begins, room after room, passage after passage, nothing. What was that army guarding? Finally a room with 2 book cases, a throne and the rack, yet the search reveals???..... again nothing.

Through the last door left unopened and, 3 more goblins. Zanfya with his trusty staff dispatches 2 of them whilst it is left to Valinar take the other at range with his bow after Morgusson missed with the whip.
Brocanon, marching on, opens the passage door to find a new foe. A Goblin Boxer with yet another Orc.
Image0134.jpg

Down the passage. Through the door runs Brocanon, growing impatient and frustrated, and stops dead in his tracks as he comes face to face with the biggest thing he has ever seen , A Skaven Rat Ogre (atk 7 def 7 4b/p).
Image0135.jpg

Meanwhile Zanfya and Valinar decide to send Morgusson on a secret mission to try and speed up the search for a key to the locked door and also maybe out-flank the never ending tide of green. The leave him with “Swift Wind” and “Pass through Rock” and chase after their friend down the passage.

Ahead, Brocanon drinks his “Potion of Strength” and rolls the 5 die in attack, 3 skulls. The monstrous rat shakes his 7 defense and throws 6 skulls and a white shield. He hears the barbarians’ friends approaching down the pages and moves to cut them off. It attacks Valinar as he rushes headlong through the door, 4 skulls, the elf slips and slides in his mad rush and only manages 2 white shields in his defense, flies past the huge rat and leaves the calm and serene wizard to finish off the Rat Ogre with his staff. (1 skull for the wizard and 6 white shields and a skull for the Rat Ogre in defense. Oh the shame of it Morcar!)

Oblivious to all this Morgusson moves silently down the back passage, after “passing” with the “swift wind” (no comments please dad) and surprises 2 more White Orc’s, snake whips the first with no defense and it’s head rolls away down the passage, no doubt creating a blockage .
The battle of the quest begins.
Image0136.jpg

The last White Orc attacks with 3 skulls and Morgusson defense, 2 white shields. Morgusson attacks with the “Bane” 1 skull – the Orc defend with a black shields, second attack 2 skulls the Orc 2 black shields. The Orc attacks 2 skulls, Morgusson defends 2 white shields, The “Bane” hisses through the air again, 3 skulls, the Orc defends 3 black shields, again sword flies 3 more skulls again the Orc 3 black, the Orc attacks 2 skulls the defense?? 2 white shields. 2 more “Bane" attacks both with 2 skulls, both defended with 2 black shields. The Orc attacks, misses, the epic battle is finally taking its toll. Unable to lift the mighty sword again due to the exhaustion of his sustained attacks, Morgusson snaps out the snake whip, catches the Orc by surprise with a single skull, all white shield is rolled in defense and the battle is over.
The reason for the frantic defending by the Trained Orc., he was guarding the secret door to the room in which the key was hidden to allow our brave warriors to continue on their journey. Opening the locked door reveals that they were so close to the way forward, but didn't know it when they first arrived.

They move wearily on!!

Re: Puck & Oberons Friday Dungeon

Travelling through this Lost World of chaos, desperate to escape, our band of battle hardened travellers keep hearing whispers about the “Wind of Life”. It is said to be in a village at the end of a stone maze whose walls are so high that they cannot be climbed. Yet there is no word of any-one having attempted to find this mysterious village. The entrance to the maze is rumoured to be via a dark forbidding tunnel leading through the High Mountains.

Desperate now, our hero’s seek out this tunnel and walk in.

Shivering with fear (they will tell you it is the cold), they ascend some stone steps to find that they are indeed at the start of a massive walled maze and see two closed doors set in the huge walls.

They open the doors to find… 4 Chaos warriors in each room. Deciding to attack one room at a time, (lesson learnt form the Inn of the Screaming Skull), Morgusson defends the doorway way to 1 room as the others start to clear the other.
Image0160.jpg

Valinar snaps off an arrow from his Elvin Bow, 2 skulls, no black shields in defence, 1 gone. Morgusson lashes out with the snake whip to keep those in his room at bay. His 1 skull is easily defended.

Those under the barrage of the main hero attack charge to the door and the first rolls 3 skulls against the mighty Brocanon, yet with his size and strength he manages to wield the attack, no damage done. Meanwhile the defences of Morgusson are probed with 1 skull, he rolls 2 white shields to defend, counters with a skull with his snake whip and the Chaos Warrior is dead.
Again Brocanon attacks with the broadsword, a skull. Again the Mighty Warrior defends. Brocanon moves to allow Valinar to loose his bow yet the Elf misses. Zanfya swing his mighty staff, 2 skulls. 2 black shields defends.” Sort it out you lot” yells Morgusson as he decapitates another warrior with his whip. “There are 3 of you!!”

Trying a different tactic the barbarian, wizard and elf retreat back through their door to try and entice a Warrior into an ambush. It works; a warrior rushes through after them, swings wildly and misses them all. Zanfya thrusts with his staff (1 skull) the Warrior is out of control and fails to defend, it crashes dead to the floor. Morgusson again lashes with his whip, this time his attacked is defended. Monetarily distracted by their friend's plight the others have forgotten that they still have another Warrior to contend with and it slips in and inflicts a body point of damage against Valinar. Attacked by 1 skull only, his defence is 4 skulls and a black shield. Brocanon swings the broadsword and the Warrior so intent on the Elf doesn’t see it coming. The 3 skull attack is weakly defended by only 1 black shield and at last 1 room is cleared. They move to help Morgusson who thankfully move back, exhaust at his efforts to keep the others away losing three of his B/P in the process. The end is near. Again the broadsword slashes through a Warriors defence. Again Valinar misses with his bow, and again Zanfya shows his might with the Staff. The rooms are cleared. Morgusson invited to search first and fall straight into a pit trap.
A search reveals no more doors this room, it is a dead end. Carefully Brocanon enters the other door, dodging a spear that flies from the wall.

Traps and Chaos Warriors at the star is this to be the deadliest quest yet?

Stopping only to wipe out some goblin archers with out even allowing them to attack they find 2 doors in the next passage way. Zanfya steps through one, only to be sealed of by a falling block trap, losing a single B/P as he dives out of the way.

The others trail through three other rooms finding a little grog and some pieces of coin. A couple of “Tomb Masters”
Image0162.jpg

(Pucks imagination does run wild) appear as wandering monsters but are quickly dispatched.

Finally meeting up with the lost wizard they all step into the next passage. As they do they hear a morbid chuckling and the doors slam shut behind them. Their attempts to re-open them turn out to be in vain. Forward is the only way now!!.

They rush past an open forge, dodging the spitting embers to find a room of Goblin Boxers being trained by that shining bonce Silverdisc.
Image0163.jpg

Punches fly, yet no damage is done. Silverdisc dodges round the room looking good yet missing with his attacks and managing to dodge those that are sent his way. Our heroes pick off a boxer each with the Wizard hanging back to attempt his mad rush through the forge (he might be mighty with his magic and his staff but he is terribly vain about his immaculately trimmed grey beard).
Suddenly Silverdisc is suddenly alone surrounded and all of our intrepid band claim a body point each and the shining is yet again no more (how many clones of this “bright” baddy is there?).

The door leads to another reincarnation. The Ice witch is back.
Image0164.jpg
As usual she is spitting shards of ice as we interrupt for a snack break

(Chunky chicken curry set on turmeric rice for Oberon whilst Puck consumes his healthy ingestion of two sausage with a baked bean on toast sandwich (Like I said his imagination does run wild), Washed down with a cocktail of all varieties of juice that Puck could find in the cupboard mixed together, and a far more civilised mug of sweet black coffee for moi).

The ice shards miss, mustn’t interrupt a good meal, and Valinar finally finds his aim with the bow, 3 skulls, his triumph is quickly over as the witch shows what she is made of with 4 black skulls. (What’s that saying “Hell has no fury like a woman…..whose ice misses” Brocanon is to busy looking for treasure (misses his go to find a measly 50 gold coins) Morgusson tries with his own cross-bow and to the disgust of the Elf, every throw is a skull which the witch cannot defend and she is gone.

Valinar opens the door to a dark passage which Brocanon gropes his way along to find a door leading to the middle room. This he opens to find the Chaos Sorcerer who immediately casts “Summon Un-Dead” and 2 mummies (1 is enough. Ask Puck when it is bed- time on a school night!” and two Zombies. (What I see of “Mummy” when she wakes in the morning, again I say 1 is enough) appear surrounding the spell caster.
Image0166.jpg
Brocanon spirit blades the 1st mummy with 4 skulls, 3 black is a good try, but bye bye mummy. Valinar kills a Zombie with the Orc’s Bane (UGH??) giving up with his bow. Zanfya smothers the Sorcerer with the “Tempest” whilst Morgusson misses the other Zombie with his own bow. The Un-Dead run around like stressed mothers do (Pucks comment) and miss everything, as wives do!!(Who’s comment is this??). Brocanon dispatches the other Mummy with the Spirit blade, Valinar “bane’s” the other Zombie and misses, leaving Zanfya to clear up with his staff. Morgusson throw his pilfered vial of Holy Water at the Sorcerer and the battle is over

Our heroes step down the lighted stairs to feel what the “Wind of Life” is all about. The escape, for those of pure heart, from this World of Chaos. That what the Forces of Evil have been trying the hide all this time. The Lost World is forever behind them
