hello everyone,
I played heroquest in the early 90s and recently started playing again with my son. We've played the base set quests together - have one quest left to go on kellar's keep and are about to start the barbarian quest. It's been a lot of fun revisiting the classic ruleset and playing through the original quests. We're keeping it original heroquest for the most part but gradually acquiring some cards from other packs as well as a few customs here and there (especially skill cards). The original artwork and miniatures are hard to beat. Although I'm not impressed with most of the new avalon hill / hasbro artwork and sculpts, I have picked up a few of the new miniatures like the knight, the new polar warbear, the new yeti, the new sinestra, the new elven archers, the dwarven explorer, and the raptor and saberfang allies all from a la cart eBay postings. I'm appreciating even more the brilliant game design of the original set - the perfect basic tabletop hack and slash dungeon crawler with room for expansion and creative customization.
My favorite original miniature is the chaos warrior
spell ring, fire ring, orc's bane, spirit blade, and borin's armor are my favorite artifacts.
the chaos spell I don't look forward to is Command. Summon wolves and Reanimate is pretty scary too.
My favorite quote from Bardic Broadcasts' "Why Heroquest is so Great" yt video is: "Come for the barbarian, stay for the dwarf!"
I'm curious about learning the original Japanese ruleset and playing a few of its original quests one of these days.
I know heroquest never really left, but glad it's back
