HeroQuest Junior: Super Mario

Postby FollowerOfShe » April 11th, 2019, 1:34 am

While I was at work today I had the most random thought. "HeroQuest Bowser's Castle." After a bit of expounding on the idea, It slowly became "HeroQuest Junior: Super Mario" with "Bowser's Castle" just being the starting Quest Book. I have ideas on how to do the board, cards, rules, enemies, and the rest of it... but until I get those and throw together something worth while, I'm just gonna share the badly photoshopped box art.

Good idea, perhaps. I'm not sure about still calling it HeroQuest if you're using so much
from Super Mario...layout ideas for quests, art, perhaps special powers and abilities and
enemies and such. I would give it a different name, and tell everyone here that it uses
the same game play as heroquest.

That's just me. I would have to see what you come up with for everything else for calling
it junior. Are you cutting or watering down rules? Making it not as scary?

How is it "Junior"? What are you removing from or simplifying in the game that can already be played by five year olds?

The idea isn't really a rule change at all, just a reskin and a possibly a smaller board. (I know I mentioned rules in the OP, but if rules change at all It would just be having only 1 move dice to go along with the smaller board)

And the whole "Junior" thing was just a play on MB's/Hasbro's "Let's put Junior in the title to market it towards kids, whether the rules change or not."

But all-in-all the idea is just a Super Mario reskin for HQ.

--Heroes-- (essentially)
Barbarian = DK
Dwarf = Cpt. Toad
Elf = Mario
Wizard = Luigi

--Enemies-- (essentially)
Goblins = Goombas
Orcs = Koopas
Skeletons = Dry Bones
Zombies = Boo
Mummies = Broozer
Chaos Warlock = Magikoopa
Chaos Warrior = Boom Boom
Gargoyle = Chain Chomp
N/A = Bowser
N/A = Piranha Plant

lol. i'm genuinely looking forward to this! i'm assuming that if Mario can move through an enemy, into an empty square behind, that enemy automatically takes 1 point of damage as Mario jumps on their head?
you already have the rules for fireballs too! :p
