What about variety of combat tactics? From your posts I assume it's not that important to you, is it?

Whilst it may be to me, I'm looking to keep it basic to start with:

Berserker
Spellcaster
Regeneration
Invulnerable
Two Attacks
Cause Disease
Flight
Fearsome Monster/Fear
Large Monsters
+Poison/Stat Effects
+2 Square Melee Weapons
+Armour Types
+Weapon Types
+Magic Schools - inc giving the Chaos Sorcerers access to Dark/Nurgle/Tzeentch/Slaanesh, Dark Elf Access Dark/Bright/Ice/Celestial(Air)/Grey(Water-ish)

So even though I've masses of ideas for monsters and lairs. quests and missions - I know I add in waaaaaay to much - so I find a good habit to trim back.

What you've given me is a MASSIVE step up with updating and tweaking for my 'group' - please accept a selection of jewels :blueorb: :greenorb: :greyorb: :redorb: and the obligatory :cookie:

The ideas I have for Warlock, Druid & Half-Orc Heroes are mostly just because I can - It's great for the old grey matter.

A little fun play :redheart: keeps the darkness away :gargoyle: :chaoswarrior: :mummy: :zombie: :skeleton: :fimir: :orc: :goblin:
D4? D6? D12? D100? Doesn't matter - you can still roll too many 1s...

Thank you! It's fine for playing with the grandkids, but I think you'd probably find other titles more suitable for the type of gameplay experience you're looking for—if you're not trying to reinvent the wheel as you say. Did you see this post?

Let's play a game my friend - How many have you played on this lists? And with other people?

Heroquest
Space Crusade
Dungeons&Dragons
Advanced Heroquest
Advanced Space Crusade
Space Hulk
Gorkamorka
Necromunda
Warhammer Fantasy Battle 3e/4e
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1e-4e
Rogue Trade & W40k 2nd-8er
Warmaster & Warmaster Ancients
Hordes & Warmachine
Stragrunt II
Gaslands
One Page Rules - Grimdark Futue/Grimdark Firefight
Dragon Rampant/Lion Rampant
Dungeon Crawler Classic
Mongoose Traveller
Mork Borg/Cy-Borg

No even going to list all the JRPG/RPGs on various consoles.

The grandson fully grasps HQ and tries to do more, he loves Carcassone. As do me neices.

I know exactly what AHQ can and can't do. For me - It's a dungeon generator with models and dice that can avoid repetition and the need for pre-planning.
I've got what I need with some decent not OPP models converted from the 200+ avalon hill models.

It'll be being played with ages from 8 to 52. It'll be fine. Don't stress yourself :)

And those things I listed as all I'm 'limiting' the game to - are from the original rulebook.

This is the age old argument on the internet RAI vs RAW.. and for me, fun and flow super-cedes both

Not at all - I can list other games as well. This is about AHQ, what you're doing with it, and what you expect out of it. You're the one who seems to be stressing too much over the bestiary, actually. If you're playing with the kids, you want to "tell a story", tactical combat is not that important, and you're not reinventing the wheel, then some of those titles may end up being more suitable for what you're trying to do, which may allow you to spend more time playing the actual game with the little ones, not modding things or putting together a custom bestiary. That's all I'm saying, and I'm trying to help you, really.

And it's still a valid one. As I said in that thread I pointed you to, it's just an approach for those interested (that has given me very good results, by the way); it won't bite. ;)

We all like modding the game, we just happen to have different standards and methods, which is what I was trying to explain. You don't need any of that for what you're doing in my opinion, but, again, it's only an opinion - and this is a discussion board afer all.

Happy gaming!

For everyone, actually. People just can't seem to agree on what qualifies as "fun and flow" in a game such as AHQ. As I said in the post I pointed you to, I believe some degree of objectivity is attainable, but that's just me.
