Yea, if the elf spells are being used then I'd stick to one set for the elf (no reason why it shouldn't be a WoM set though) and some elf spells added on either as a level up or artefacts but the OP didn't mention that he was planning on using the elf spells. They're a bit weird anyway, you need to figure out how you're going to handle some of them, like which monsters can be affected by twist wood and how many dice they attack with when they are.

Well, the wizard is a bit underpowered, you can't deny this. There's more than one thread dealing with how to beef him up a little.
Adding more spells is an easy way to do so. It adds variety to the game, and as the wizard has more cards on hand, he will cast more often, contering the tendency to spare spells "for the boss". As long as you somehow include the new spells in the elemental system and add an equal number of them to each element, you don't have to change the rules at all.
Of course, I'm also a fan of vanilla HQ, but mostly for nostalgy. It is stll the "real thing". But adding spells would not make it any more complicated for younger players (unless you require the wizard player to learn the spells by heart).
Have a look ;)

He is but I think Mike is using UK rules because he mentioned using the WoM spells but not the elf spells. In the UK rules the wizard can have all the quest treasures so that's enough to make him balanced. A wizard with borin's armour, the spirit blade, wand of recall and maybe even bracers and cloak of protection if he's playing the 2nd edition will buff the wizard a lot, assuming the heroes are working together so he gets to have them all. If not the wizard does struggle a lot.

Once the wizard has that Talisman, it's the extra elemental set for him.

As for scrolls, blank ones... 'A spell caster can inscribe a scroll with any known spell by spending their action at the sorcerers table.'

The Talisman of lore... 2 extra MP. As in our games MP is linked to skills, for the wizard this would be an extra set of spell. Each set is 2MP.

It happens in this quest pack which is kind of a return... https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzUqo ... FkyU1BJT0k

Ahh ok. In the NA version it gives only 1 MP and most give it to the Barbarian so he's not so "stupid"

We don't usually have a generic barbarian so not much problem there.

I have four adult children and two grandchildren. My adult kids played this with me when they were little. I just picked up the base game, Kellars, RotWL, and Ogre Horde. In getting back into the game I thought about adding stuff, but it got complicated quickly. I highly recommend just playing the base without mods for the first few times.
