Borin's Armour

Postby Ethica » May 11th, 2010, 7:16 am

Sometimes I can be a bit too picky...

Borin's Armour comes with a helmet it seems. Should this mean it can't be combined with the standard armoury helmet, meaning it's no better than a chainmail and helmet combination? :geek:

Normally I play it as a free Chain Mail/Helmet combo. I believe that it was originally intended to be light-weight Plate Mail that didn't have a movement penalty, but they clearly have headgear in the picture.

How do the defense bonuses work out for each set?

If everything is equal, then give your helm and separate armor to another char that can use it or else sell it...
but there shouldn't be any way to break up the set that includes the helm...

I always play that Borin's Armor is lightweight plate that doesn't impede your movement. Nothing special about an artifact that is simply a bunch of stuff you can buy at the armory.

I myself have always ruled it as being just a set of plate-mail. I don't pay attention to the pictures.

I play that it's a lightweight platemail, otherwise it's not special. The camp winged helmet is optional.

There are other possibilities for armour. though I've not come across any custom cards for them- Greaves +1 defence dice, Gauntlet +1 defence dice and +1 attack dice.

I had issues with this as well in a separate forum. As troublesome as the picture might be I have to reason that it's platemail without the movement penalty.

This, in itself, is debatable between the American and European versions, as the wording on the card in quite different. The American version does give a more adequate explanation that it is Plate Mail that doesn't slow you down.
Whatever the meaning of the European version is debatable, though. I believe it only says the armor allows the hero to roll 4 dice in defense.

The equipment cards in the European version do come with 2 shields and 2 helmets, which brought up the argument that perhaps the equipment can only be bought once. This would make sense as the European version is much easier then the American version, so limitation in equipment is much more effective in balance.

I just go with what the card says. If it says magical plate mail that does not slow down the wearer, then that's what it is.

I know the wording is different between versions, but I would still go with what is written on the card and not the picture. Otherwise we would have to assume the Orc's Bane comes with an orc corpse attached that the hero must also carry around.

Lol don't forget the Wizard can also use a shield according to some pictures.

Dang, I didn't get the quote feature to work correctly :/

Reason: Fixed the quote. Then realized you edited the post to point out you messed up the quote feature, yet didn't fix the quote while you were editing your post...
