Quick rule question

Postby AndyW » Sunday August 28th, 2011 1:05am

I'm playing my first run through with some of my friends as Zargon. Now the heros are getting there equipment... is it possible for hero's to role more then 6 defence dice? It's to the point that they can role 7 or 8 which is crazy. Monsters have no chance to hit lol.... what are your thoughts?

With the combination of equipment, spells and potions, yes it's possible, but a rarity and only for a turn or two.

This can be a big problem with UK rules, as most monsters only have one "life". A Battle Axe with 4 hits plus Courage Spell, and even the toughest cannot usually survive 6 hits. As drathe says, its usually only one turn, but this can be enough to bring down the central character of the quest. :2cents:

I'm also playing the European version of the basic set, but in those quests there are no armouries yet, so we can't buy any equipment. We can only hang on to what we find in the quests. So far I've found a spear, some gold, and a potion or two. Last quest got me Borin's armor. That's it.
The US version has an armoury, but also tougher monsters.

I did some more looking at it and Borin's armor is just 4 defence dice, not +4 so it's actually like plate mail w/o the draw backs... we were playing it wrong so I will correct him next time... I"m sure he won't like it :)

I'm sure Borins Armour already contains a helmet, which means that the dwarf can't add another helm to his defence.

We've discussed this point before. I reckon you can still have a normal helmet as well otherwise borins armour would be no better than chainmail.
