First - I would make the player cast the spell before rolling the red dice,
or you might use a fixed movement system. Point is, a wizard would need
to cast the spell before moving into a wall (thinking logically about it as if
a real possibility).

Second - I would not allow the stopping of movement to count spaces during
the movement. The player (i.e. character) should have some idea of where
he is going, or should be made to fumble around in the wall as if he knows
nothing of where he is (again, thinking realistically). Maybe something like...
the player should point to the space or a selection of spaces he might wish
to go to, sort of announcing which direction he might go. Something like
that, perhaps.

Third - if the player exits a wall, and the last movement space allowed
drops him into a piece of furniture, I would say this causes major damage
to the character. There is no simple bumping over to a clear space. As one
has already mentioned, in the teleporting quest, if you drop onto a monster
or another character, somebody is taking some damage.

Fourth - then again, the point is to have fun. There must be rules to follow,
because then it would be a free-for-all. However, if you are playing with
"sensitive" players, or especially if you are playing with people new to the
game...then, yeah, allow a lot of leeway until they get a good handle on the
game, and then slowly starting bringing the hammer down, as far as rules go.

Actually I disagree with this point:
We allow the heroes to cast the spell after rolling - But of course they are not allowed to move first, cast the spell and then move the remaining squares.
Being the wizard often suck. Once he has used his spells he is pretty worthless. Only four spells are offensive, the rest are circumstantial utilities. This at least gives him a way to optimize his spells.
And let's not forget: We are talking about a spell that can potentially KILL THE CASTER!!!
In addition it can separate the wizard from the party, make him stuck in a room full of monsters - or worse

tl;dr - The wizard may roll first, then cast ;-)

I never considered that before. I would still let them pass through furniture though because veil of mist doesn't let you do that.

I feel that allowing the players to gamble by walking through a wall to a square with a monster or a "spacy furniture" (i.e. tables, weapon racks and so on, not fireplaces and bookshelfs) BUT penalize such moves with damage to the player is the way to go. So the player steps through the wall and emerges just beside a monster (the monsters are not so stocky that they take up an entire square of space), the monster gets a free reflex attack, and pushes the player (or is pushed, wathever) to a free square, where the move ends. In other words, it is possible, but very risky.

Thnx for the input everyone, it has been most helpful |_P

The card text of Veil of Mist does allow you to move "through" figures.
But these are only words to keep the mechanics of the spell in line with the rulebook and easily understandable.

Of course the Veil of Mist allows you, technically, to move around monsters unseen, not through them.
You don't become a ghost like Kitty Pryde 'phasing', but you become merely unseen.

With Pass through Rock you 'phase' through objects.
If you only allow rock to be passed through, that's more than ok, but I include furniture and figure... everything.

Veil of Mist is just a tactical help.
