Yeah if I were to buy a second set I surely would wait until they were discounted on some other website (I got mine at GenCon for free).

On a somewhat related note, I wish they had a supplement card deck you could buy with various goodies that never received a card in this reissue, or some new equipment to fill in some missing gaps. The Spear, real Raiment of the Ice Champion and Wolf cards, Elven Chainmail, bosses that didn’t receive a monster card, an Elven Longbow, a Greatsword, a Halberd, etc.

physical cards were made of at least some of those, given out at Game Conventions. I have the Raiment of Frozen Champion playtest cards

The sheet printed on regular paper (not as thick as the cardstock used in remake HQ) is what was given out by AH staffers at GenCon2022.

Any physical cards out there are fan-made, as only the official release of those artifacts was on the paper you see above (which can be printed out from https://web.archive.org/web/20231210053305/https://hasbropulse.com/blogs/avalon-hill/heroquest-a-chilling-journey-north, archived until they fix the links on Pulse officially!). See this thread for all the free digital HeroQuest content that Avalon Hill has generously given to the community thus far. |_P

I have printed out my own too, but any cards you see floating around online (or worse, for sale on places like Ebay) are just the above images sent to someone's printer (and they are explicitly NOT allowed to be sold, per Avalon Hill's express wishes). If you want your own high quality versions, I recommend sending the images to a site like MPC or BGM (it will cost you at most 50 cents per card to get the approximate quality you'd expect to find the box), again, for personal use only, not to sell.

Sadly, like the "Adventure Design Kit" some unscrupulous individuals have taken what is a 100% free item that was never intended to be sold, and are actively ripping people off, but that's a rant for a different discussion... :p

mine are the AH convention hand outs, they are magazine style paper (so thicker than regular paper, smoother and glossy) and have tiny pre-perforated cuts around the cards. Not quite as thick and rigid as the playing cards, but no where near as weak and floppy as regular paper from someone's printer, more like a magazine cover.

I didn't know they actually perforated the card edges (not visible in those pictures) nor that it was glossy paper, that's a nice detail.

The papers they gave away at GenCon2023 were not. While the ADK was on a tear off pad, it was regular paper (I'm not an expert on weights of paper, but this wasn't the super cheap copy paper stuff, but the slightly thicker stuff). The copies of Knightfall were literally just grabbed from a color laser printer you'd find in any office.

Still my old point still stands... I saw people selling it for $50 on ebay within hours of them being handed out, it was ridiculous. They're going against the explicit wishes of the creators, scamming and scalping based on peoples ignorance for an item that isn't even rare.

Magazine cover, huh? Like a grocery store magazine rack / news stand magazine cover or like one of those cheap-o coupon leaflets you find at store kiosks?

I wouldn't expect something like this to be printed on paper equal in quality to the actual questbook (which was a kind of satiny mid level magazine type paper for the cover and all pages). I saw the videos... they had thick stacks of these things. If they were too shiny you'd have the pile collapsing as people ran by grabbing off the top.

I have a question for administrators: why is this topic still here, among miscellaneous and not in the official releases for more visibility?

New rooms have only been created drathe--the Inn is his baby. The dedicated group of moderators that maintain the Inn don't have the necessary permissions to alter the structure of the forums.

The best I could do was set up new HeroQuest product in this Miscillaneous room as stickied topics. (No such room is found grouped with the specific official releases.) This catch-all room now serves to contain all Avalon Hill products for HeroQuest that can be bought in stores or online (new official releases that weren't released in the 90s). The HeroQuest app discussion has also been located here. Other official content, including the Pulse crowd funding material, online Quests, and upcoming product are stickied in the General HeroQuest Discussion room. After something becomes available for sale from Avalon Hill, I then move the discussion here.

I agree it would be good to assign a new room for each new product, by the way. If you care to, you can post about it at Board index ‹ Ye Olde Inn ‹ Ye Olde Inn Rooms ‹ Forum Discussion Room. That is the most likely place drathe would go to learn about your question, though he hasn't had time for any Inn renovations in the last couple of years.

So I'm running through Rise of the Dread Moon for the 2nd time; the first time I did I just ignored the whole disguise aspect and ran through it as heroes guns blazing. The difficulty and complete and utter insanity of running through Glenis Fen fighting Werewolf after Werewolf, the transition in difficulty level throws off the balance.

Anyway, the 2nd time around I figured I'd try the disguise aspect as often as I can. Upon doing such I've noticed, or at least think I do, there are only 3 quests where you can wear the disguise. Is this accurate? I originally thought this would be a wider aspect of the game.

Yes, it is used sparsely, and if you take the text strictly woodenly literally, minimialistically as written (and follow the lead of the App; though I will say that the App is flat out WRONG in several aspects... the Disguises as canceled if you use potions, Underground Market items i.e. smoke bombs/caltrops or artifacts, even though the quest booklet specifically only mentions Spells/Spell Scrolls and the use of prohibited weapons/armor as cancelling them) the Disguises mostly hinder the heroes and only grant a few easy kills on a couple of monsters in those limited quests. Of course this is a golden opportunity for Zargon to weave it into something more interesting, which is what we did.

For example I decided that for the none "automatic" monster encounters, I would roll a die to see if an encountered monster became "suspicious" and began to follow the heroes, possibly blocking their path, to see if they would become aggressive. I decided if you attacked a monster within their line of sight they would approach, taking you to be hostile (though it would not break the disguise, again, unless you used a prohibited item). In a few instances I was able to ad-lib and say that the monsters say not to enter a room (and attack if you do), taking the heroes and their allies to look like ordinary (neutral) villagers, and not seeing your weapons.

At one point we had a growing crowd of "suspicious" monsters following the heroes at a distance (through a quest of almost no fighting), to the point where they were finally cornered and forced to stand and fight. The only problem I ran into is that I ran out of figures for Cultists at one point (thankfully I had lots of extra Chaos Warlock figures to substitute).

Yeah I was playing through it and I think at quest 4 or 5, where the heroes were supposed to rescue their friend in the shop, the Wizard cast Fire of Wrath, which I forgot kills the disguise.
It's fine, though, the hack n' slash method is more fun and less confusing.

Mage of the Mirror's difficulty throws this one off. I played MotM with the Elf, Knight, Monk, Wizard & Wolf pet Wolf. Unfortunately the Wolf died in the last fight with Sinestra, so I just used the same 4 to continue the adventure.

I think Rise of the Dread Moon could have tied the storylines together more. Magrian's origins aren't really covered, but they could've said Sinestra had summoned her from the Realm of Reflection and that's why the Mirror gates had to be closed.
