I was just laying out a bit of terrain for the intro to the Prince Magnus Gold mission, the second quest for my group. I gonna tape the vinyl map on black canvas tomorrow.

I gonna skip the Inn this time and have them travel straight to the black mountains where the orc hideout is located. I thought it would be nice if they are challenged by a group of guards before they enter the dungeon. I gonna start out with this map and let them find the secret entrance after they have defeated the guards.

So if the guards take body points from the Heroes, does that carry over into the actual quest?

Yeah! Thats the plan....I thought about either taking one or two out of the mainquest instead or leaving a potion or spell outside as treasure for balance....I am not sure yet.

Difficult decision! I played Prince Magnus' Gold recently and I thought it to be a little easy for the Heroes, in which case you could just add the guards as planned but keep the main quest the same.

Another issue with this quest that people sometimes raise is that the route to the gold is a bit long and all the monsters are dead by the time the Heroes find it (meaning the rule where the Heroes are slowed down with the treasure chests is a bit pointless).
Take a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1463&hilit=alternative+quest+maps , there are alternative quest maps for most of the original 14 quests. The routes are altered whilst remaining true to the number of monsters, traps etc.
