Yeah! Thats the plan....I thought about either taking one or two out of the mainquest instead or leaving a potion or spell outside as treasure for balance....I am not sure yet.

Difficult decision! I played Prince Magnus' Gold recently and I thought it to be a little easy for the Heroes, in which case you could just add the guards as planned but keep the main quest the same.
Another issue with this quest that people sometimes raise is that the route to the gold is a bit long and all the monsters are dead by the time the Heroes find it (meaning the rule where the Heroes are slowed down with the treasure chests is a bit pointless).
Take a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1463&hilit=alternative+quest+maps , there are alternative quest maps for most of the original 14 quests. The routes are altered whilst remaining true to the number of monsters, traps etc.
