An analogous example:
I call my Zombies "Wights" because the word is
a) English/Germanic and
b) way more generic and interpretable in meaning.
Through stats, miniatures, background text, and quest storyline I can build a whole new context for my wights that is completely independent from the term Zombie.
Look at how George Romero and The Walking Dead fans react to the use of "Zombie" in or about World War Z.
Another example:
I call my Beastmen "Mongrels" because it's the only way to be free of GW Warhammer lore while using their Beastmen miniatures.
