If you are going to do a lot of minis of the same type I would suggest priming them in that base color. IE tons of clan rats then prime in a dark fur color and then start on top of that. I've not done large count minis like this but every time I read about people doing a lot fast that seems to be how the do it, also makes sense. Thinning paints for me is the acrylic thinner I bought or water. It does the same thing but I've noticed slight differences between the two when painting. Again everyone says that for starting out thinning with water is easiest and the way to do it. http://www.reapermini.com/Thecraft/15: Thinning paints. Mophus gave me good advice in that thinning it to 1:1 paint:thinner if I recall correctly. He has to paint each coat twice but no detail is lost and it's a better finished product. It sucks when doing it but always aim for the end product. I regret certain things I've tried on beginning minis (I knew I'd mess up anyways) and learned from them. Take time and do it 'Nice & Neat' as I'm sure Tasoe would say. I was painting a few weeks back and was thinking
IvenBach wrote:How the F*&# am I going to paint those Skeletons teeth? They are so small aren't all that well define in the sculpt to begin with. What can I do?
Epiphany wrote:All you have to do is fool your eyes...

Wait, what? So you're saying I just make it appear like they are all super detailed and our mind fills in the rest? That's genius!

And so it was that I quit worrying about every single minor detail and started focusing on ways to trick my mind into seeing what I wanted it to see.
What are you seeing here?

As for eyes http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12: Bette Davis Eyes makes you say 'why didn't I think of that?' for painting eyes. TheCraft by Reaper has a lot of good info if you can sit and read it all. Even if it doesn't pertain to what you're doing it'll show you another way of doing it and probably invoke your own ideas on something else.

i see a butterfly..........................lol

im not sure painting is about creating illusions. when you paint a 3d model there is no illusion to create unless you are working in NMM.
its pretty much little painting with numbers as opposed to painting an image only a blank canvas.
and stop talking nonsense crawler. im no different than anyone else here and hardly an expert. i just try things and sometimes they pay off :) im merely a hobbyist like everyone else here.
when i first started painting over 22 years ago. i didnt advance too much in all that period leading up till now. you show more improvements than i ever did.
so just keep plugging away. remember washes are your friend and cant wait to see more :)
and ill also voice tasoes concern...take it steady and take you're time, if you have a lot to paint, then paint them in a production line method
10 undercoats then 10 base colours and so on. it gets boringly horrible having to paint that many you suggest. you will give up way before you get even a quarter of the way...so i would suggest use the army painter dip method if you want quantity over quality. thatsw what i did for all of my HQ monsters :)

I can't see a butterfly at all. All I see is some guy poking a lady in the small of her back.

I see no dolphins, and I don't get the asian girl, plus is there something to be seen in that ball?

Don't stare at balls from up too close.

The dolphins are grey, inside the white areas.
The asian girl seems to spread her legs, but it's actually the back of the chair.
The ball has always been simply a self portrait of Escher in the reflection of the ball as far as I know. I've never heard of anything else in that picture...
