Because it was copyrighted jointly with Milton Bradley, who was later bought by Hasbro. Hasbro has publicly released HQ stuff for DL on their site, basically saying they don't care about it.

After looking through my set today is it just me or does AHQ look like it plays similar to an earlier version of WARHAMMER :?: :?

The idea was (in order of simplicity) HeroQuest -> Advanced HeroQuest -> Warhammer Quest -> Warhammer

Advanced HeroQuest is like HeroQuest mixed with Warhammer Fantasy Role-play, but with all the fun wrung out of it. Its still better than Warhammer Quest, however. Playing that tedious game is like a part-time job in rule awareness.
