Cant stay logged in

Hey Guys, I'm using Firefox and have an issue where I cant Auto-login (ticking always stay logged in), and on browsing if I need to log in it takes me back to the forum main page. If I click back to go back to the page i was viewing at the time of logging in it logs me out!

Very frustrating and is actually deterring me from being active on here.

Any suggestions?

If you are using a phone to visit the inn, you probably have to clear your browser history and website data, or something like that depending on your phone.

I had the same issue using my phone until i did that. I still have to clear the data every couple of months if I notice I’m suddenly logged off again.

I had the same issue a year ago. I didn't change anything, it just started working again.

As an aside, I cannot auto-log either, and I get timed out after a period of inactivity.

I have found that getting logged out happens most frequently while following a link to another page within the forums. It's a pain, but I've learned to expect it.

drathe turned off the “stay logged in” because of spam bots.

YeOldeInn does not really enforce http vs https. Mostly when you log in you wind up using https, but most links are http. It's considered best practice in 2022 to force everything to https … but we don't (and in fact for some reason I can't fathom, that might be what's causing the 503s on the gallery.)

At some point I really ought to fix that on the server end. I'm just reluctant to risk breaking anything anything until I'm directly prepared to fix it on the spot. And I'm not right now. (n fact right now I'm sick, so operating well below capacity here…)

There's another thing if you are using Chrome … http vs https. I stay logged in if I visit the site with https. I'm never logged in without it. But at the same time links to the gallery usually don't work with https … when you get the inevitable 503 errors, edit the URL and change it to http. Won't be able to comment on the gallery post that way, but you'll be able to see it at least.

Someday that will all be fixed. It's on my todo list.

This is doing my head in! I follow links and I am instantly logged out yet I go back to a different tab and all is fine! Is there any fix for this at all?

Yep I have continued issues that quite blatantly have me not coming here with any regularly and even more so not interacting or contributing.

Hi everyone, I was coming to complain about the same problem, I can't stay logged in and it's quite frustrating. I log in every time and begin browsing the site and I happen to fall onto some post which has some links restricted to non registered users. I log in again, but I'm landed in the home page and there's no way to go back to the page I was, I have to search for it again, which by the way doesn't work too fine neither (I tried the workaround of copying the post's title and search it once logged in again, but sometimes it doesn't find it, I have to memorize the path to the post...)

From what I see there's no solution foreseen, so I'll learn to live with it.
