Heroquest festival and tournament

I put the tournament together yesterday. Check it out...I think you all will REALLY like this. Very simple,
but could add a lot of fun and a lot of depth to the game - especially if you are gifted with more than three
or four players to go with your evil wizard.

I'll work on the festival info now - may add a little more to the tournament, but I can add that as a simple
post from here on. The rules are pretty set - anything else would just be "fluff" material.

So - what we have here, information on tournament games - sword fighting, jousting, and archery.
There is a mention of a magic competition, but only in passing. Might work up something more for
that, as well.

Hope you like it.

UPDATE:
This new game doesn't really require any neat pictures, so I'll just type it here:
TOURNAMENT GAME: THE FOOT RACE
Each contestant usually must pay 1 gold coin to enter the race. The winner gets
half of the entry fee collected.
Each contestant (player/game master character/etc) rolls a number of combat dice equal to
his Body Points. each is trying to roll skulls on his dice...this is an indication of how far that
character has run for that turn.
The race can take place for as many turns (rolls) as you like - a short race would typically need
3 to 4 rolls. A long race...maybe 3-5 miles long, would require up to 8 or 10 rolls.
The contestant with the most skulls rolled at the end of the race wins.

UPDATE: Festival and Tournament rules will now be found here:

Looks cool. Would be easy to do a trial run in the forum. You could start with the archery contest (maybe ignore wind). Invite people to roll for their 6 shots and tally the scores.

Looks good.

Me too. And we should post pictures of the archers that are entering.

I've been trying to work something up - hopefully in a day or two I'll have something ready.
I'll post here to inform everyone...and it will be in the play-by-post section.

Glad you all like it. :)

Great idea!
Not as critic, just a suggestion:
It seems a little abstract to me in this form. You could play it as a pure dice game. Would like to have the figures more involved.
On the other hand, one could use this as an advantage - playing a quick tournament whenever the gameboard would be unhandy. :?:

True - the archery contest is a little on the abstract side. The jousting, too, I suppose.
The sword fighting would require normal combat routines with figures. You could
incorporate a sword fight with the jousting, when one or both get knocked off their
horse.

I'm also adding in a dagger throwing and axe throwing contest.

Ideally, the tournament stuff would be played out as part of a festival, and the players
would move their figures around the festival grounds, talking to vendors and others
at the festival. The idea here: perhaps a thief passes by and picks a pocket while they
walk...perhaps a city guard mistakes a hero for a guild thief and tries to arrest him...
any sort of action can take place during the role-playing activities.

I know - sounds a bit like kids sitting around a table playing with their action figures - but
hey...is it really that much different? It is up to the Game Master to add descriptions and
flavor to the world around the heroes, and draw the players into the world.

I think I can handle playing with these kind of dollies.

Actually, this was common practice in the late middle ages.

Well, I think kids playing with their action figures is an ideal we can only try to get close to. Free playing. It's the real deal. Grown ups like us need rules...

OKAY - The first tournament event has been posted in the play-by-post forum.

Read the Festival and Tournament Opening first.

We'll see how this works out. Could be fun.
