[Group Quest, Amiga HQMM] - Lost in the Orc's Cave

Postby thequester » May 9th, 2017, 12:57 pm

Back on the Amiga computer, there was a piece of software called HQMM (HeroQuest Map Maker), with which one could design and print one's own quests - and with this software came an example quest called "Lost in the Orc's cave". (Which in that way feels almost semi-official to me  )

Now, back in the day I printed that example quest (with a dot-matrix printer  ) and put the print in my HeroQuest box. In 2013 I found and scanned that printed quest, and today I stumbled on the scanned file!

I'd like to share it with the community and have it preserved that way, it's a 1.4MB jpg-file.
Is there a way to put it up here, or can I send it to one of you guys to put it up somewhere for everybody?

I definitely agree with the semi-official status of that quest.
I'm amazed how new (old) stuff like this keep popping up. You'd think we had collected everything at this point! :D

I suggest sending a PM to drathe

Excellent! This reminds me of the quest off the Quest design kit expansion box. Looking forward to seeing it.

You should have been here when the Japanese version of HQ was suddenly being translated. It was an entirely different questbook! :o 8-)
Almost an entirely different game even...

Yeah, I can imagine the surprise. Those Japanese
Nothing as crazy about "Lost in the Orc's cave" of course. Though the graphics they used for Mentor's description of the quest are a little different from the original quest book.
The author is Camiel Rouweler (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and the publication date (of the software, version 1.14) is 1993.11.24.

I found the map as part of a U-tube demonstration. Unfortunately it doesn't show the intro or notes, just a tantalising "Whilst you are on a reconnaissance....."

Yep, that's the one Admiral! Those are the first words of the intro.
And in order to build a bit more suspense while waiting for drathe to answer, I can reveal that the intro ends with the words "before you are killed by despair or the dwellers of this extensive darkness..." :P

The rest is guesswork, but A has to be where the Heroes start. B is some sort of Upgrade for the Orcs? Crossbows? C is repeated in two rooms; Healing Potions? D is the reward for picking the wrong path out, so I would think it is a fat horde of gold!?

Was I anywhere near?

A is indeed where our Heroes start, in the darkness, having fallen through a trap. B explains that all Orcs down here are used to the darkness and therefore better at defending themselves. The chests marked with C both contain a lamp, giving better chances against the Orcs. Chest D contains a map of the cave - almost as good as a fat horde of gold
