Fairly Un-Tested Custom Single Quests

Postby mikemacdee » Tuesday March 19th, 2013 3:00am

I hope some of you find these interesting or fun enough to try out with your groups. If you feel like something needs to be adjusted, do post a comment with details. And keep in mind I didn't look at anyone else's custom quests or quest packs before making these, so I haven't got a clue whether I'm being creative and unusual or if I've just made the same tiresome "first quests" everyone else did at one point.

You can download them as unprofessional-looking pdf files here. Just right-click the titles and "save link as." I'm not posting all their details here because they're more fun if the heroes don't know what they're getting into.

~= The SCOURGE of ST. MORDIN =~
“The secretive St. Mordin monks hid the Tablets somewhere within the abbey walls, along with many other secrets, some of a nightmarish nature. When you have found the tablets, return to the stairway and consider the Quest won. But can it truly be a victory if the Scourge yet lives? The sun still shines, though timidly, and it will be many hours before sundown. The beast will sleep in the meantime: truly there is no better time to end its existence…if you are brave enough to try…”

~= The GLAIVE of ACASTUS =~
“My master sends his gratitude: he is old and his adventuring days behind him, or else he would march boldly into the heart of the coliseum ruins himself. Supposedly the champion gladiator Acastus met his demise in the arena lion pits shortly before the city fell, so his remains may still lie in one of those pits. If so, return with his legendary glaive. But take care, friends: the spirits of the fallen still dwell there, and they take delight in punishing the greedy.”

~= The MANSE MACABRE =~
The heroes stand in the courtyard beneath a moonless night sky. Towering before them is the old manse the Martense clan has called home for nine generations. Surely Baron Martense has left a clue to the source of his power somewhere in this eldritch house. If the heroes can identify it, perhaps they can destroy it and bring Martense back to humble mortality. Within these walls lies madness, death, or victory — by night’s end, they may all look equally wonderful.

~= INN-ESCAPABLE =~
Said Archmage Tobias before you embarked on your quest, “The Aeon Scythe is a delicate and dangerous device, designed to tear holes in time and space wherever it is activated. It is a prototype, of course, and very easily…ah, ‘upset.’ When you find it, store it only in the special case I’ve provided and bring it back immediately. Most importantly, do not drop it!” These words explode from your drunken memory as you watch the clockwork object bounce across the floor. Then brilliant white light engulfs the inn…

nice blog! I'll check out the quests :)

Just read a couple. Inn-Escapable is a great quest, I love it, but I think the risk of getting lost forever is a bit harsh... If the heroes aren't prudent or aware of the workings of the scythe, they'll easily lose a good character. I never like losing my characters over a weird unexpected event like that. I should have a chance to understand what's about to happen, and even if I get caught by it, have a chance to escape. :2cents:

It is mean, but also doesn't kill them: it could possibly just set those characters up for another set of adventures which may hopefully take them back to their homeworld. Zargon's discretion. Of course, they do miss out on the reward...

If you run it with your friends I'd love to hear how it turned out! Also thanks for checking out the rest of the site and stuff.

Hmm, perhaps an idea for a follow up in case some get lost. :) sounds good!

I posted a new version of Inn-Escapable with a couple of tweaks. Hopefully the rules and outcome are clearer now.

Also still struggling to finish a campaign....
