It's hard to find the absolute balance between heroes.
It depends from the quests they're playing, each one benefits different kind of characters.
The arena is not always the best place to check it.

Although he lost his hand years ago during a battleship, he is an excellent swordsman especially when he expects to find something valuable after the battle.

Basically he always has his bonus. The rooms get searched only after the fighting is done.

Ok there is the wandering monster....

Bah, i like him. Whereas, the Body Point effect is a little bit strong for my taste.

If the pirate only has one hand, then he should also not be able to use a Shield. The +1 to attack actually sets him on parity with most of the other Heroes, since his best weapon is a (+1) Longsword, giving him effectively a diagonal Battle Axe at the cost of not being able to use the ranged Crossbow, unless that's actually a one-handed weapon. (Ironically, these limitations on his equipment mean he has less use for his gold.)

Regaining an extra BP from Potions does look strong, but healing potions tend to be limited commodities, which limits the practicality of the ability. All in all, this Pirate seems well balanced.

There should be a 20% treasure leach on this hero due to his alcoholism. :) Grog isn't free you know.

He is gaining a BP on any potion he drinks as long as it has no negative effect....

Exactly. I would let him use it only if he didn't attack the current round.

Not always..there are many places and situations where he can't use his bonus. Corridors for example.

Yes, he drinks a Defense Potion? Then he gains 1 B.P. and the potion effect of +2dd.
If he drinks a Healing potion he gains 1d6+1 B.P.

Though I prefer Heroes about as basic as the original four, I think placing extra game mechanics on the back of the Hero Card is a great idea.
