HeroQuest Remake conversion to EU Rules?

Postby Kurgan » Thursday December 29th, 2022 1:17pm

I know this may be a touchy subject to some, but does anyone know if there is already any fan project underway to convert HeroQuest 2021 to the European rules (1st or 2nd edition)?

Granted, it would consist primarily of changing the text on the cards (and adding a couple of new ones, like the Spear, changing Wand of Magic to Wand of Recall, etc) and so would probably run afoul of the rule against scans of the modern stuff here, but just was curious.

Thanks for any info! Otherwise playing the new game old style is as simple as referencing the old rulebook, but having the cards with the proper instructions would complete the picture...

The NA Game-System was considered an improvement of the EU version of the game. Many of us have always blamed the 1 BP monsters, even for the villains! And the lack of Chaos Spells!
Unless we are going to to convert the new questbook (Prophecy of Telor for example) to the old B/W layout, just for a matter of taste, I doubt it would be worth the effort to redo all the cards.
It would mean downgrading the monsters again, removing Chaos Spells, removing spell scrolls and potions beetween quests. They are also introducing updates on the rules, trying to fix some bugs.
I usually play with a mix of the two, I take the EU rules for search and for the traps, also for the LoS, but I prefer the US version as they implemented some new stuff that was missing in the EU version.

So people don't like the weaker monsters, but they liked the stronger spells and weapons, the old style character cards with the non-starting weapons? The stuff in Zargon's hands is easily adjusted, it's the stuff in player hands that would beg for a change for their convenience unless they all have it memorized.
