Blunderbuss or not.

Postby tallyho » Thursday December 28th, 2017 8:10am

I know many of you feel that musket and blunderbuss dont belong in HQ and i agree on that.
But what if a magician made something similar to this, and the heroes found one in the Dungeon.
It would be a primitive and loud weapon.
And as a houserule, any monster would back of 1 step when this loud weapon is used.
Well i made this card, anyone have any comments on this ?

Idea from GimmeYerGold, artifacts. (4) Turned an old dwarf skill into a firearm-type artifact. powerful, but injures hero.

Looks way too powerful. Maybe if it only works one time, then explodes on the next attempt, wounding the Hero.

Well, maybe to powerfull in center bar.
I dont think that the side bars are to powerfull.
Normaly monsters are spread out in a room, and it looses efficiency on each hit.
I would keep the 3 shots with the blow up rule. Makes it more exciting.
I maybe wrong, i havent play tested this.

Heres a weaker center bar.

Interesting. Seems a little fiddly in the way it's explained, i'm still a bit confused.

A simpler rule would be...
"Undefended hits not used as wounds, follow through, hitting the next target in line"

This way it's not going to cut through a big chunky monster and continue to do damage, a weak monster, yes. Not too Over powering. Follow through is a standard rule i use for a few weapons, like Assassins Blade but it uses the term 'in reach' instead of 'in line'.

I did have a player who loved Dwarfs and he wanted gunpowder, double barrel, blunderbuss etc. We made the 'Scatter Shot' split the Cd6 across a firing arc, it had 4Cd6 in total. A shot 4 squares away would only have 1Cd6 on each square but it could be extended beyond that.

Dices isn't a word. "5 dice" will do.

I prefer to put Cd6 to represent skull dice. In this case i'd put 4Ad6. That's purely personal choice.

Although i understand how it works i still think others will be confused by it. The table needs to feature some sort of Hero position, direction. Why would side hits follow through and not the centre ones? The text "centre bar only hit ones" is very confusing.

I wouldn't have it taking up 2 sides of the card. I'd ditch the no hit part all together. Use the standard damage mod for all weapons but on this card it would say. "Weapon explodes when damaged -1Bp."

i'll have a little more of a think about the idea later. Ways it could work.

First, happy new year fellow HQs.
Im not familiar with the use of Cd6 or 4Ad6 dice. Please explain.
Hero position, its a good idea.
Side hits are different, due to the buck shots spreads out and follows through, when fired.
If the center bar had the same rule as side bars, it would be to powerful.
Exploding gun rule, i think balance the card.
I am grateful for new ideas regarding the card. Had been nice if we could get this card to work in the best possible way.
I apologize for my bad English. :)

d6: 6 sided dice, d4: 4 sided, d10: 10 sided etc. These are numbered dice. Using C is short for Combat. Cd6 refers to the 6 sided skull/shield dice. If A or a D it's being specific to which form of combat. Using Md6 refers to movement dice.

On your card, if you didn't want to shorten it to a similar system, you would need to put 'Attack: 4 Combat dice'. When I first read your idea, i was under the impression you had ditched the combat dice, changing it to the normal dice, due to the numbers in the chart and not specifying Combat d6 (Cd6).

As for the follow through centre bar. Most of the hits will be used up so not much will follow through, no worries.

Keep the exploding Gun rule but shorten it to free up space, rolling 3 BS alone is quite enough.

Another problem people might fall on... is 5 squares it's max range? is the first square the first target or from the hero?
