This is assuming their life points are at ZERO and not at -1; anything lower than 0 kills them!
A hero collapsing due to overattack can drink a potion and bring their life points back...I had 4 life, got hit with 6 dmg, and drank immediately a full health restore - came back with 4 life.
Luckily, I wasn't attacked immediately after - because for us you can only use ONE health potion per turn to restore your life that way!
