Showdown's HomeBrew Hero Quest Project - The Cards

Postby Showdown35 » January 26th, 2015, 3:42 pm

Hello All,

In case you missed my introduction post in the Inn Lobby, my name is Dave, and I'm working on a totally homebrew version of the game. I will be making and modeling a board and furniture, painting Reaper minis, and creating completely new and modern looking cards!

So here it goes. The following is a sample of a the cards I'm working on. Please keep in mind that, while I designed the format and layout of the cards, the artwork of the characters/monsters/items were taken from internet searches and are in no way held to rights by me. I am, in no way, receiving any monetary gain from creating and posting these creations, they are solely for my own personal use, and I am sharing them with the community for personal use only!

The images are high resolution (300 dpi) and are standard North American card size (same size as a Magic or Pokemon card). I apologize for the large size of the images below (a product of the high resolution), it appears that image resize coding is not enabled in this forum, so I'm not sure how to preview these at a smaller size.

I am also providing a link to the Parent Directory if anybody wants access to all the files as I upload them: http://www.showdowndave.ca/heroquest

Ok, so I'll start with the Heroes!

And here are a couple Monsters I've completed. The rest are currently in progress.

I've only finished one Artifact so far, I will work on them when I'm finished the Monsters.

Finally, the equipment. I have finished all these cards (the Armory from the base game, no expansions yet), but since they are a little bland, I'll only post two here.

After I finish Monster and Artifact cards, I will work on the Treasure and Spell cards. I plan to have the Spell cards with different backgrounds (relevant to their elements). Comments are welcome.

Once I'm done with the cards, I'll start a new thread with photos of my board and furniture as I make them.

Thanks!

Sweet looking cards!
I love them. Much better than the originals I would venture to say. {I know a blasphemy to some, but I speak my mind.}
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Wow, these redesigns are spectacular! It really adds a lot of character and updates the aging originals. I wouldn't mind seeing all the HQ25 stuff done with this layout actually!

However, I laughed when I saw the axe and armor artwork. Hello steel battleaxe and steel armor from Skyrim

Thanks for the positive comments! Keeps me motivated to keep making these!

Haha yes, trying to find decent high-res art of weapons and armour is difficult, most of the images are from Skyrim, but hey, as long as they look nice!

Thankyou! I'm particularly proud of that Fimir because it was almost impossible to find Fimir artwork online. So I just found a nice looking Lizard creature, and photoshoped the heck out of his head to make it longer and give him one eye in the middle! I'm very happy with how it turned out. I'll post more updates in this thread as I finish more Monster cards.

Those cards look great. Not a fan of the old fantasy style, eh? One other question, though it is highly important. EU or US? (or maybe a bit of both?)

US. I never had the privilege (or misfortune, depending on your view) of playing EU rules.

I do like the old fantasy style, but I figured since I'm making my own edition of the game, I might as well have some fun and update the look. I chose the scroll and parchment paper graphics to keep the fantasy feel, though.

These look nice! I see you manipulated a generic lizardman image into a one-eyed monster.

Indeed I did! There just isn't any high quality Fimir art out there, so Photoshop was the best option! I'm very happy with the result.
