Bad Gamer Syndrome.

Postby drathe » January 19th, 2009, 10:24 pm

Here's a little game blog I totally relate to. As of late, my gaming tastes and desires have not advanced with the markets, and I too am left with my Wii and inferior games that I enjoy very much. I believe I too have Bad Gamer Syndrome.

Well, I believe that I too, am a "bad gamer". Most of the games I hear people talking about I've never heard of. I've never bothered to look up a game and find out what 'rating' it has. I've never been one to take a stranger's advice on which game is good and which game is bad, because everyone's tastes are different.

On a side note, I'm 30 years old and have just recently purchased my first gaming console, ever. To re-cap, my brother had an ATARI 2600. We had loads of fun with it. Nintendo (the original 8-bit system) had been out for 3 or 4 years before I received one as a Christmas present. Super NES had been out for about 3 or 4 years before my step-brother gave me his. Flash forward to 2002. My good friend and neighbor turned in "Safety Points" at his work and traded them for a PS2, which he gave to me as a Christmas present. I just purchased a new PS2 to replace that one (it broke and I had just bought a game for my son).

All total, I have 14 NES games, 8 SNES games, 2 PS1 games and 8 PS2 games. I've never played guitar hero or halo or any other "popular" game. I enjoy playing games with other people and interacting with them. So, I too, am a bad gamer and quite frankly, "Don't give a damn!!". but that's just me.

I have a ps1 and around 30 games,ps2 with around 20 games,ps3 with 6 games.
I had a N64 a super nes, a nes,a dreamcast,a cpc 464 (tape) monochrome and I think I always like playing games but my tastes are more into survival horror games now. (door/mob/weapon ... mmm it sound familiar isn't it ?)
I recently stopped playing online games on my computer,I sold my lineage 2 account (only cheaters on) to buy a ps3 and a new giant tv ^^.

I play to video games only when it is necessary & under some special conditions :

* when no board game parties are planed in the week end
* when there is nothing to watch to the tv each evening
* when it's too cold outside (barely impossible where I live but sometimes...)
* when I "work" to spend the time (I have a nice job hehe)

So I can play video games and also boardgames but as it was previously said,it's better to play with other people, real people than staying alone in front of a tv/pc screen.
So I'm a gamer & a video gamer too.Shame on me !

I used to be quite the gamer in my day. I still own a pretty good number of games, but I favour the types I grew up with like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Classic RPGs and fun multiplayer games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Phantasy Star Online... :D I never got into the First-Person Shooters. The closest I could get was the Metroid Prime Series which I really enjoy, but revolved more around exploration. I owned Halo and an Xbox for a short while when they came out, but just didn't turn out to satisfy my particular taste buds. All the power to those who enjoy those games though. Just don't bring'em to my place.

I've been into games since the early eighties when my Papa got us a Coleco Vision for Christmas in '82. Never had an NES, but when I was 14 and had my first job, I saved up for an SNES and have been gaming heavily since until about two years ago. Since then it's been more casual. Not just in the types of games, but in the time spent playing them. Maybe delving even deeper into the online HeroQuest community had something to do with it...

I still have a lot of games and all my systems are still connected to my media television.
Coleco Vision games: 19
SNES: 34
N64: 18
PSOne: 13
PS2: 10
Dreamcast: 11
GameCube: 52
GameBoy/Colour/Advance: 36
DS: 40
Wii: 31
WiiWare: 4
Wii Virtual Console: 35
PC: 8
