As an avid Facebook user, I will say that Facebook sucks in many, many ways.

The groups function is, however, one of the best aspects of the site. The ability to connect with people is greater because of the natural personal connection of knowing their name, but also its just more widely used by people.

Is it perfect? Not in any way. All of the flaws of facebook are there, but as a medium for people coming together, its pretty easy going.

Sometimes the inn can be intimidating, maybe even a bit cliquish, because many people here have been here for a long time. Also, its not a social media app that most people have on their phone. Message board interfaces are great on computers, but are awful on phones. Except maybe reddit.

In the end, both avenues have their functions for everyone and its awesome to see so much life back in the game we all love.

cornixt wrote:Facebook is built around two principles now: rechecking feeds, and hiding existing data to encourage more posts. Neither of these is congruous with discussion of mainly static data, it's all about what's currently popular and how many times they can serve you adverts while you hunt for something new or something you saw a short while ago. When the Hasbro version gets delivered you'll have to get ready for the massive repetition of the same few types of Facebook posts: People showing off the game, people angry at something in the game, people asking the same rules questions that were asked the day before. And there is no way to avoid subjects you aren't interested in.

On Facebook, I have blocked every game, every meme site, every group. My feed is only posts made by friends and family (and more recently it is filling with "suggested" posts from elsewhere that Facebook wants me to join). The adverts are nearly all for boardgames (because I used to be signed up to groups related to them), so at least it is stuff I am interested in. I only visit it in a browser that I only use for Facebook so they don't get any more tracking data about me from elsewhere on the internet.

Yes same here, I hate social media and am not a member of any of them, esp Fakebook!
Also, that's a great idea, only having a browser open for one specific site!
Ps does anyone's know how to quote a specific line of someone's comment on here, not the whole comment?

I too have checked out the HQ groups on facebook and decided, "nah." Tho in my particular case it had a lot to do with the site malfunctioning. I'd be scrolled fairly far down into the feed, click on a picture to get a better view of it, then when exiting out of the picture it would take my back to the top of the feed instead of the post I was looking at. I ain't got time for that.
Of course, I really don't like fb anyway. I joined many years ago because it seemed like a good way to reconnect/stay in touch with friends from back in the day that you just don't see anymore. My biggest use for it now is organizing my gaming group's monthly game nights. My friends list has all of 40 some-odd people in it, all of whom I actually know in real life, and even half of them are on 'unfollow' because they tend to post large quantities of crap that I have no interest in.
If Zuckerberg runs the company into the ground with his metaverse dystopian fantasy, and fb ceases to be, I won't shed any tears. If Musk can additionally destroy Twitter, and Tik Tok gets banned from the US, the world will be left a far better place, in my opinion.

edit to add: I've also taken to only opening facebook in a private window, which I then close when done. Seems to cut down a lot on their ability to come up with "suggestions" and targeted ads.

I discovered this *lemony goodness* through Facebook. I was really excited to find out getting back into HQ would be much easier than I thought. I even fug through my old, long forgotten box of miniatures and posted a a few photos of original HQ minis I didn't know I still had. I made those my first painting projects and just posted them here. They're not impressive, but ai had a blast and they look better than blank grey minis on the board lol.

I also got rid of Twitter and FB not long after. Honestly, I kind of hate social media anymore. It's an unending cesspit. I already work on a shipping dock with a sea of uninteresting people. I don't need to be exposed to their insanity by choice in my down time lol.

I get where you're coming from. I do enjoy seeing the gallery of work that guys put in, the mini painting here is just phenomenal and I almost didn't share my own because I'm such a novice in comparison. But I can see how that would get overwhelming.

There is an occasional "fear" some fans have that they are "missing out" on quality custom content by not being a regular scroller of the FB group. The nice thing is that anything worthwhile that gets posted there WILL be posted other places too, eventually. And the stuff the "Sunday Quest" guy posts gets sold anyway (at printing cost) on Amazon. So nothing goes to waste.

The idea that you have to constantly be scrolling a page day after day or you won't get your "chance" to get some mod, could make a person become obsessive after awhile, I suppose. I like that I can just come back here anytime and it's there to discover again. I know Discord isn't perfect, but we make it our business to share stuff there (HeroQuestFans) too. But this feels the most accessible and "permanent" (as much as things can be on the internet, of course).

While I got into FaceBook way back in the day, it wasn't long before the lawyers started using it as a tool to support their cases, even if they were completely unrelated to the topic or subject of the case. At the time I was in Law Enforcement, and it was recommended that we limit or exercise extreme caution with what you post. The problem later became, who you were friends with, or friends of friends with, and any comment you may have commented on or liked, even if it wasn't you who actually clicked the like.

That being said, I've since retired, but I rarely look at FB. I may look at something posted by a friend or family member, but that's maybe once or twice a month, but that's about it.

I am on Reddit more frequently, but don't obsess over it. I'll swing by here now more often as well, but I think I'd rather spend my time either working on game/quest design and development.

And thank you Kurgan and all those that aid you in keeping this site alive.

I seldomly visit FB for some reason... I hate to see the same new posted hunderd of times in several groups by the same people first, and again by different people then.
I can aleady imagine when the Rise of the Dread Moon will start to be delivered we will have hundreds of posts with a pic of the box and just "arrived today" as description.
That's my prophecy...

I left the YeOldeInn group there, too.

Also, deleted all my Facebook postings.

They seem to introduce more stress than anything else.

I paused my Facebook profile for almost a year then got back on because the "Warhammer Quest!" group appears to be the only WHQ group on the web with active participation. But... FB sucks. It's almost not worth it. And, as a kicker, FB redesigned their mobile site. It used to have a button to take you directly to the feed from your groups. Welp, that's gone. All they want to you to see is ads, ads, ads.

Anyway, rant over. The old fashioned way works pretty well. Glad to be here.
