Anderas,

I'm sorry to hear about your health, fighting cancer sucks. Cancer is part of the reason my father in law is dying. So I completely understand.

Yup in the US you probably would of been fired. But it's good you have your dream job now.

I still hope your holidays were filled with joy and happiness through your rough times. |_P

Thanks Thor-in.
Joy and happiness for sure! As said, it was the best year of my life. In the end, I even got my bonus this year despite the long absence. That'll teach me.

Never again will I do more than 100%, and I will use the extra free time for searching new opportunities.

It's less risky than in the US to raise your voice here, true, but the salary is also between 50% and 30% of what you get in the US. The avantages of the EU are elsewhere: having heavy and long medical treatment and not losing money, job, house and wife on the way is one of them.

Good! In my opinion it's incredible harmful for yourself AND your co-workers.
For starters you risk getting stress. And the harder you work, the bigger the chance of making errors.
But even worse, you are setting a standard for your boss and politicians to see.

In Denmark school teachers had for years been able to work at home (when not actually teaching) - preparation and stuff.
Then early in the new millennium, people suddenly got outraged that teachers were only working like 20 hours a week (the time they were physically present at the schools) - for of course they didn't do any work at home.
The result were a reform that forced teachers to be present at the school the entire duration of their work week. Teachers then responded by leaving exactly at 17.00. Whether they had stuff to do or not.
As it turned out, the teachers had been working extra hours for free all these years. Forcing them to stamp in and out just exposed how many hours they had been putting in at home.

The morale of the store, besides me getting a bit sidetracked? Danish politicians are gigantic fuckheads.
Seriously! Whatever you read about Denmark in the news, our politicians are so out of touch with the people!
