You could always get a start by following basic recipes from Betty Crocker or Better Homes and Gardens. Once you've masted the basics, you could introduce variations on a recipe.
I've been a home cook since I was 12. I used to work in my grandmother's restaurant over the summer. When I was in my 40's my father said I had a mid-life crisis because I gave up my international elementary teaching career to return stateside and to enroll in culinary school where I trained as a chef. After working in the food service industry for a few years, I returned to education as a chef instructor back in 2007.
If you've ever watched the film, Ratatouille, I subscribe to Chef Gusteau''s belief that anyone can learn how to cook. As with anything else, learning how to cook requires time, practice, and patience.
