Personally, I cannot usually afford to go all in on KS projects, let alone buy multiple pledges, however, I can certainly see the appeal in having a chance to essentially pay for one's own game by doing so. Though, as GK points out, it is a potential crap-shoot.

No more of a crap shoot, methinks, than buying a new game at your FLGS. You're never quite certain what kind of game you're in for until you get a chance to play and absorb it a few times. I'm one of those crazy risk-takers who buys a game I've never played, sometimes never even heard of, off the shelf on a whim... if I think it looks cool.

Oh, I totally get that. The context is where people might purchase multiple KS pledges OF THE SAME game, specifically in order to resell the extras and recoup their money--i.e. pay for their copy through sales of extra copies on the secondary market... Particularly exclusives.

That, could be a crap-shoot, as there is no guarantee that you will sell it all and make your money back. Then you are out $500 instead of 80-100 or what have you.

Nah, you can always get your money back at least for the extra pledge(s). Worst case is you simply payed for your own copy in full. Best case: profit!
