Perhaps GW has become too big to sustain specialist games...
i wouldn't mind if they focussed on creating their miniatures and let others worry about making the game to play. Isn't that what happened with the original HeroQuest.

in fact, you guys should ask Hasbro handing over the IP to Ye Olde Inn or drathe to make your own stuff the official living HQ and then Zealot could be the official furniture! ah such a perfect world this could be!

More brilliant would be for Hasbro to Open Source it for all hobbyist / not for profit activities. That way you have everybody using your copyright AND acknowledging it is yours. Zealot (or anybody else) would need to pay something, but only if they did marketing with an official HeroQuest logo… So nothing would change there.

I do not understand how "new monsters" and "customized minis" for HeroQuest would not draw a significant revenue stream… If they just reprinted the game (would have to be WarHammer Quest?). FF does this with Descent 2nd edition and it seems to be very popular.

The ruleset of 25th has been published as preview. A lot of the models have been shown. There exist pictures of the factory filled to the roof with boxes of finished minis.

There is absolutely no reason to believe it would not be delivered. I am just a little bit sorry for the US who won't get it.

This in spades. Gamers tend to have limited funds for their games. It is unwise to price yourself above the customers game budget.

I think it's an attitude that won't sustain, they seem to almost have disdain for their veteran hobbyist and want to target the pester power of younger gamers to fill their coffers.

I'm just sceptical from all the bad press, and the fact that they still haven't given a release date yet.

The retailers want to start sending mid of may. So the release should be before.

I think what confuses me (and possibly others), is the insistance of a publisher on hanging on to IP that they don't appear interested in doing anything with.

I mean it's similar to CBS hoarding Star Trek rights and denying ideas for new ST series'... Except, in that case if done right they really could make money off of ST again so it's understandable. But Hasbro and GW? Do they really think they are holding out for a big HQ future, or just refusing to let anyone else do anything with it?

I mean it's a specialty market. A reprint likely would draw some new players, but I'd wager mostly it would be those who are already fans that would spend 60+ bucks on a reprint.

However, with the success of other coop board games right now it actually could take off.

To bring it back to the current situation though, I am REALLY curious to know how similar or different the 25th AE will be. From the cryptic reports I have read, it sounds like there will be some differences; enough to make it an all new game?

They're quite close to the original; with some adaptations to fit with the taste of the Heroquest people in the spanish forum Heroquest.es

For example they have a 8-sided movement dice: Six sides show the numbers 1-6; one has "HQ" on it and is kind of a Jackpot; one shows a "?" and represents kind of a big fail. It has been tested by a fan: The numbers 1-6 appear with 15%; the ? and the "HQ" appear with 5% each. It's a strange dice. :)

The effects are set action-by-action differently. For example, if you move and one of the two dices shows a "HQ" you may move the full speed. If you roll a "?", you jostle somebody you pass by: Morcar may move one of the models you passed by in your turn, by one field.

Well, I'll try these rules at least one time. The 5% possibility of "HQ" and "?" open up some possibilities in the gameplay you simply don't have with standard dices. If it turns out to be cheese, I'll return to the YeOldeInn beefed up original Rules with modern minis.

Thanks for the pics of the Digital prototypes for the dice. I admit when I read the translated commentary about the dice I really did not understand where they were going with the concept. I have a clearer "Picture" now. So thanks for that.
