Mother Lode!

Postby Infje » October 25th, 2013, 8:28 am

I simply need to vent this to people that also love board games:

Last year I figured I would purchase Warhammer Quest sets from Ebay, sell it with profit and save up enough to buy my own. It went bad. Making a set complete from scratch eventually turned out expensive and winning auctions for lower prices didn't help due to shipping and custom fees. After I had 2 complete sets I couldn't sell them. Perhaps some of you might remember my 2 disappointing topics here. Eventually I did sell them, a long with Advanced Heroquest (very disappointed in that one) with a huge 150 euro loss. An expensive lesson.

Now months have passed, winter has begun and we're in full swing playing Heroquest (at my place) and Warhammer Quest (at a friend). Then it started to itch again. I figured, forget Ebay. I posted a wanted ad at a marketplace here in the Netherlands. I got a couple of reactions but those also figured to get 250/275 euro for it. I don't think so. Back when I tried to sell it here I remember being pissed at Erratic's reply but I understand it now. It's ridiculous how they artificially pump up these prices. I was about to give up when this week I got 2 e-mails from 2 different, very nice people. Both wanted to sell their set. I bought them for a combined total of 279 euro and when I just opened the packages, my mind was blown. I just hit the Mother Lode.

One set wasn't used according to the seller. Pics looked good. When I opened it up, I saw that only the box had been opened. Everything else is new. Unsprung, sealed, unpunched, etc. Crisp condition as if it just came out of the store. Oh my.
Then I opened the other box. The guy wasn't sure if it was complete so he sent some pics and I went a long. He offered to throw in the extra stuff he had collected to make up for anything that might me missing. He wasn't kidding. Not only is the set near complete I'm now also looking at serveral Deathblow books and White Dwarf magazines. I got extra heroes, expansion heroes, extra treasure decks (all 3 of them) and a whole bunch of Lizardmen (painted very well). Needless to say, I'm a very happen man.

I'm going to make some pics after everything is sorted out at post them here (if people are interested that is). It feels great writing down this story. It's like I'm a kid that just found a treasure chest. I love this hobby :)

Sweet! Congrats man! I'm also on the VERGE of getting an incomplete copy of WHQ, but the guy who has it, needs to clean up his attic to find everything, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. As I already own some doors and archer orcs and spear goblins, I might be able to complete it anyway. Tiles and cards are what's important. Keep your fingers crossed for me guys :)

Looking forward to your picture Inf!
