Hero Quest - A Test Sidescroller Animation.

Postby Hero_Of_Retro » Friday June 21st, 2013 7:11am

So ive done plenty of stop motion shorts and animations with Warhammer 40k. My last one was an hour long with everything i ever owned in the collection. 20 acts of sci-fi goodness with a script written on the go, after a year it probably shows. :) Due to being struck with an illness though, i couldn't finish it. :( Its 54 minutes long.. i may still finish it and add the music and audio at some point. All effects are used with the basic paint program..

Stop Motion: The Grim Darkness >>

However, with Hero Quest being a fantasy.. i was working out what would be a good way to do this like above.. they require, more direct contact, :P i may have more tests up later in the week and will eventually make them longer. :) Had a little chuckle though.

Very cool man! I love stop motion movies. Very nostalgic. I'd like to give you some pointers though, to improve your movies ;)

1. if you can, paint your minis.
2. try not to use a flash, it looks like there's lightning in your movie (which in a stormy scene would be perfect)
3. create better scenery, that covers the entire frame. I can see your house :P Simply doing it outside on the lawn could be sufficient.
4. The green splashes in the movie, what are those? I'd avoid special effects like that, they are unclear and one frame is too short to see what you were trying to do there.

Keep up the good work! A full HQ stop motion movie would be awesome. Imagine playing every quest in the book like that!

Green splashes was ork blood. :D lol. Aye, i will have to paint them all, no time or enough experience though. :) Don't want to ruin them :) The background is definitely something i need to do. Aye, its like i am giving everyone a tour of the house or something. :) I will draw up some ruins and background stuff to get those out the way, :) and thanks about the flash. :) I'll need to get more lamp's. :D

I think it's great, very old school.
Agree with Sjengs points, and with a little tiding up at the finished stages, like adding the blood and so on it could be a fun piece to show off.

Thank you :) I was thinking about drawing up wall tiles around the set that have the same feel as the elf pack. Just something enough to fit around what the camera see's. And some background matte paintings. Will have a look around the town to see if i can pick up something that fits. :)

I liked it :) I actually liked the flash too it really makes it look like it's lightning. Good job |_P

I got that the green stuff were blood, but really, it would be easier to understand if it were just red.
You could use red playdoug as blood. Then it could even land and stay on the floor.

What is that song playing in the HQ movie?
