*lemony goodness*! I'm pretty sure I asked before, but forgot about it - does anyone know of a HQ sized mini that looks like Galen Bradwardyn from the Dragonslayer movie? He would have to be in his leather jerkin , carrying Sicarius Dracorum and the dragonscale shield made by Valerian. (Always thought Caitlin Clarke was hot. Must have been the side boob seen at the age of 11.)

That's how I feel about gaming. I have done various games over the years and yeah it's fun to play with friends but nothing beats getting together and gaming face to face.

Is it just me or have a lot of video games lost that 'little bit of something' that used to make a lot of them great? Or have I just grown up (still not admitting to being an adult). It seems like most games are missing any real substance and fall flat compared to 10+ years ago.

The games are neither better nor worse than they ever were. There were terrible games back in the day and there are great games being made today. Better graphics and sound can never compensate for gameplay though.

I think the main thing is that gaming culture has changed. A big part I think is the Internet. You don't need to be social to game with people anymore.
Just hook up and join random game. And if you get stuck in a game you don't need a friend to come over and show you how - just youtube the guide/walkthrough.

Another change is that games have become too widespread. My watch, telephone and shoes can play games. Everyone owns 3+ concoles/PCs (or iPads! yuch!). Then add the fact that copying and burning games are easier than ever...
Gone are the arcades. Gone are the need to go to a friend's house to play that cool new game. And gone are that "special something"...

Sitting together at the same machine is definitely something different (And also the reason board games still exist?).
The social touch is something we all need and it feels good when we do it.

Here is part one of my list of RPG/Adventure/Sim games completed. To save time, I will italicize those which I really liked, for whichever reason. I began playing video games on Christmas of 1989 when I got my NES. Since then, I have spent countless days doing nothing but playing video games. I did not play sports, I did not go on dates, I did not do anything after school but hang out with my friends...and play video games. This is my super power. This is my Great Wall. This is the wellspring of knowledge that lends credibility to everything I say about video games.

I bet I've played through more video games than anyone else here (probably any other two people). No idea how many, exactly, but I stopped making the list. Here that is:

I never played video games enough to even mention a favorite game. However, I bet I've read more comic books than anyone else here.

Dragon Warrior: This is what I cut my teeth on as far as RPG's go. It was my cousins and I initially played it there. I thought it was the dumbest game at first. I stood in front of a chest to take it and it wouldn't let me. WTF! The chest is right in front of me. I accidentally stepped ONTO the chest and tried taking it and BAM the adventure began. Honestly who stands ON a chest to take it... I had so many hours into that game. I even left my own NES on for a week straight so my game wouldn't accidentally get erased and beat it that way.

Faxanadu: I really liked it but just kept killing the jumping things early on to get gold to buy the super buff magic spell in the second town or wherever it was (I can't remember exact details). It was a spiky ball if I recall correctly. Doing that I used all my saves up, mantras, and couldn't save anymore. Never actually beat it though for that reason.

FF: Enough said. THE classic RPG that will always stand the test of time.

FF2 (International 4 I'm assuming): Enjoyed it but was diasappointed I was only level 22 or so when I beat the game. I was enthralled by the fact that you could actually go to the moon. THE FREAKING MOON! I'm talking this was mindblowing stuff to a kid.
[Reveal] Spoiler: 'Don't read until you have beat the game'
I was sad when the twins sacrificed themselves by turning to stone to save the party from being crushed by the walls; again dramatic stuff for a little kid.

FF3 (International 6): There will never, in my opinion, be any greater RPG than this. Great story, great plot (hindsight is probably saying good to average but I'm sticking with my inner child on this one). My introduction to power gaming. Getting every character to 99 with make HP: 9999 MP: 9999 every spell and the best equipment. Made my own custom list of every item in the Arena so I knew how to get any item from there. This was before the interweb mind you. I could start my own thread with this topic alone. Locke is my favorite :redheart: .

Zelda (Original): Enough said. THE classic RPG that will always stand the test of time. I still listen to the 8bit music while gaming.

Did you ever go on monster 72 hour game-athons at you or your friends house? Play for 3 days straight stopping only for the bare essentials: Pooping. Sometimes neglecting feeding entirely because it would slow your progress down? I've progressed passed this point but not by much mind you.

Edit: GK - It is depressing that arcades are no longer viable. We had one across the street from the community college, Nickel Nickel, where you could play games for just a nickel instead of a quarter. My friends and I went there several times as being adults to shove the little weenies out of the way in order to play some of the great old time arcade classics. They even had Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. The only game they didn't have, but should have, was SmashTV. That was the best arcade game ever in my opinion. 'BIG MONEY, BIG PRIZES!'

It seems kids are now isolated in their own individual living rooms gaming instead or going to one singular location at a friends house to game there. At least we here are pushing back against that tide and sitting down for good tabletopping fun.

In Faxanadu, that spell was Death, and saving up for it really does not help you out because you can only cast it once with your low MP. When recording your Mantra for continuing your game, you should always have your Mom write it down.

Faxanadu ain't that sort of game. I have beat Dragon Warrior I and II both without turning off the NES, though.
