The work was done for the first eight Lone Wolf series of adventure books. Unfortunately, while the work is free to view, it is guarded with a tight license agreement. The deal is you can view and download it free for your own use, but you can't redistribute it for any use anywhere on the net (that includes here at the Inn).
I've noticed some of the art on an Italian website, so apparently there aren't any legal watchdogs involved. However, I wouldn't want to see such blatant disregard against Gary's generosity here. Maybe he would allow us to mess with his stuff openly, but I kinda doubt it. (If someone wrote him and convinced him to allow the material here under a similar license agreement, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.) I imagine if someone used the art for cards, they could provide the book and picture identification number along with the card-templated text. That way others could print a similar card for their own use while respecting the terms of the license.
Some of the simpler work definitely fits Hero Quest, as it was done by Gary back in the 80's. A lot of it better fits the style of Advanced Heroquest. I even recognized a picture or two in common with AHQ.
So if you're interested in stocking your files, finding some inspiration, or just whiling the time with eye candy, check it out. You should first read and accept the license, which is summarized for your convenience. Then select the eight first books of the series, one by one, starting with Flight in the Dark. Choose to view standard, scroll down to the table of contents button and link to the table of illustrations. Or read and play a whole adventure--they're free!
