'HeroQuest like' movies

Postby Sinned » Wednesday November 21st, 2012 2:05pm

This discussion in the avatar thread gave me the idea for this thread: a list/discussion thread of (fantasy)movies that have a certain link with HeroQuest.
Maybe you'll discover gems you've never seen before!

I'll kick off with a few wellknown fantasy flicks and maybe some unknown:

-Lord of the Rings (we've all seen this one I guess)

-Lord of the Rings (animated) Yup. There's an animated movie as well....released in the late 70's, made by legendary animation wizard Ralph Bakshi......but only covers half of the entire story.

-Labyrinth (1986 movie with Jim Henson puppets (and David Bowie). Look out for goblins and other creatures)
Image

-Krull (1983 movie set in a fantasyworld inhabited by knights, thieves, wizards, and even a cyclops)
Image

-The Dark Crystal (another Jim Henson movie with nothing but puppets. If only there were miniatures of Skeksis and Mystics....)
Image

-Legend (even though it stars a young Tom Cruise, this 1985 Ridley Scott fantasy flick is kinda cool. The best fantasy forest ever and great looking orc/goblin like badguys.
Image

-Dungeons & Dragons
+
-Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God
(Both movies aren't as good as the game/books....in my opinion it's because for the first they took a wrong approach and as for the second, the budget was way way low. Still, the can be kinda fun to watch (and stars a wizard, a dwarf, an elf.....and even an orc walks on screen! (plus a female barbarian in the 2nd movie)
Image

-El Corazon Del Guerrero (a spanish! movie that's really, really great. It won 1st prize at the AFFF (a fantasy film festival) in 2000 or 2001 (can't remember) and is about a guy (like us) who plays fantasy games and is a barbarian in a parallel world. Just awesome)
Image

-Willow (George 'Star Wars' Lucas wrote the story and produced this movie starring Val Kilmer and Warwick Davis. definitely a must-see)

Never heard about this one, so I looked it up. These 4 Ator movies score 2.7, 2.0. 1.8 and 1.6 on IMDB  Now, I often have a diffent opinion than some IMDB voters, but a 1.6?

That one kicked &*^. Saw it at the local cinema in 1984 and got the book back then also. In 2005 and 2006 I even got to meet Noah Hathaway (Atreyu) (Noah was guest at a festival where I was crew and interviewing the SciFi guests. We hung out and had lunch. 2 months earlier I also met him (in the UK) and 2 years ago again (in Belgium)) and Alan Oppenheimer (voice of Falkor)

We should add the “flight of dragons” with the wonderful opening song and the awesome voice of James Earl Jones (known from Conan the barbarian as Thulsa Doom and from Star Wars as Darth Vader) for the evil sorcerer.

Heavy Metal movie has a “sword and sorcery” part

Also, Korgoth of Barbaria is a pilot episode of a series that is never released. It is a must to see this…

There was some sword / barbarian movie from the 80's; where identical twin girls needed rescuing or something. They could feel what was happening to the other, and at one point they were separated - and the one who was with the main group started having an orgasm; meaning that the Barbarian protecting the other one was getting busy with her!
Hilarious.

I don't know if it was even the same movie, but this big muscled black barbarian guy was captured and the jailer taunted him holding his chick by the back of her hair "This one had nothing to say, so I cut out her tongue." Then he kills her in front of him. The barb escapes, and he later gets behind the jailer, and shoves his face into the sharpening wheel he's sitting at, killing him. Apparently he was unable to stop pumping the wheel while being killed by it!

Dragonslayer is one of my all-time favs. I have it onDVD!

Yeah, I really like those schlocky Conan-inspired '80s Sword & Sorcery films (or "Boobs & Barbarians", as I like to call them). Here is a list of the awesomeness. |_P
