IF... you should change ONE thing... May I suggest taking a look at close combat for the marines.
As it is now, even if you take the squad that can specialize the most in CC and max them out in every single way, they will still be SLAUGHTERED!
Even with all the +stats, the dice still have lots of blanks, meaning that rolling zero happens a lot still. Then all it takes is a measly "1" and you have a dead marine.

Perhaps this could actually be fixed by a new equipment card.

Space future techno armor (or what ever...):
When fighting in close combat, the enemy must surpass your roll by at least 2 instead of the normal required 1 to hit your marine.
Only affects marines armed with bolters.

I could see this making CC attractive again. Right now it's just plain suicide!

hmmmm Mission Dreadnaught was hard, yes, but it was playable with the new weapons and extra marines. Was even more doable when you got to use TERMINATOR's and their weapons :D .
I never fielded a close combat only squad though. I found that the 2 times I did, I had the same result as GK and it just got messy.
A lot of times, even when playing mixed weapons in the squads, you would still suffer several casualties before you could complete the mission. The space :goblin: are the worst to come across. They shoot with 2 die the same as a normal marine weapon, so was never hard to get carved up the little ferals :( . Only good thing is they die easy  .
If it is being redone by someone then you have definitely got my interest and will keep my eyes peeled for future updates ;) :D |_P

It's actually very advantageously for the Alien player to just rush all his minis in melee all the time regardless. Sure your mini might as well die himself, but there seems to be a very high chance to actually kill a marine compared to just plain shooting at him.

Regarding the Dreadnought and White Dwarf expansions... Their concept seem to be to just ramp up the power level of both sides. In my opinion this only makes the game more unbalanced and confusing to play.
I agree that Eldar Attacks is the clearly better expansions. It adds new content in the vein of the original.

Maybe the Ork expansion is viable? It seems pretty balanced.
But the Terminators? Oh my God! They are powerhouses and they have like 15 weapon options! F*** YOU Games Workshop! I'm not buying 60 Terminators to be able to field every combination!!!

:? whooo thank god you cleared that up GK. I thought he actually said "A river douchie" :? :smack:

hehe yep Termies are a bit heavy handed, but the ORKS also have stats for POWER SUITS too and various weapons upgrades to match the Terminators. When you add the fact that you can run out a matching CHAOS squad :? the imperials can find a real humdinger fight on their hands :D and besides the 2nd edition chaos term are totally "hit shot" figures :D

And hehe yep thoroughly agree about buying 60 of those GAMES WORKSHOP figures .... holy crapoly  they should come with a needle and thread to stich everything to to stop the bleeding once you have paid :bites-lip:

You sure? As far as I can see the orks are just a normal squad with a deck of equipment cards just like marines. The only difference is that orks have lower stats, but greater number.
I'm looking at WD 134. Sure there is a power Armor, but that's for the boss only, just like marines have equipment that only affects the squad leader.

Same goes for the very forgettable Space Marine Scout squat. They are just a variant of a normal squad.

It's only when we get to the Terminators and Librarians the rules and powerlevels gets out of control.
But what-a-you-know? On the page after rules for Librarians is an ad for Space Hulk, Deathwing and Genestealer. Hmm...
