I tried playing the LurchBrick game (which is fantastic by the way) and I found it extremely difficult, because I wasn't often looking at the entire board (the four boards together), and because nearly everyone has a ranged weapon, you could have LOS through multiple doorways to have your guys get hit. I suppose you don't want to throw away your troops (as even the WH40K book advised players) since the Alien player gets points for his kills too, but as long as your Commander survives (and you meet a certain score minimum I should say), you won't lose your progress. So the survivors need to take out more monsters to make up for their losses (haven't played enough to see how it all breaks down on average).

It's basically just about getting the most out of each squad. The Imperial Fists are probably the weakest, their main advantage is their heavy weapons moving six squares but the best way to kill things is in hand to hand which they're crap at. Ultra Marines have the medi-kit which keeps their commander alive (don't bother with the bioscanner) and he has a reroll in all attacks (a reroll is almost an extra dice) but Blood Angels are the best. Take photon grenades, close assault blades, bolt pistols, bionic arm and force field with three bolters and the melee commander weapons and they'll tear though enimies and bolters only lose you five points when they die.

Alas, my package is still taking awhile to arrive (at least it's no longer officially delayed!) so until then this is the next best thing to playing it... !

Edit: They are saying Monday evening now for delivery. :) I almost wish I was getting the German version instead...

More translations of interest...

Back of the Box (left side):

Who dares to join the GALAXY SAFE GUARD peacekeepers in confronting the greatest danger humanity has ever threatened? Huge starships, lost since time immemorial and now occupied by enemy Robotlings, are drifting from a time jump towards Earth. On board these silent, strange wrecks, the GALAXY SAFE GUARD fights for the preservation of the human rights, above all her legendary mission group GSG 19.
Starquest contains 50 finely sculpted figures from 'Citadel.' These high-quality miniatures have been specially developed and made for the game Starquest.

Right side:
Each game sends the GSG 19 on a new bet [mission?]. Players must carefully choose their weapons before boarding one of the alien starships. Each player commands a betting [mission?] group consisting of four GSG-Fighters and a GSG-Commander.
A player controls the foreign [alien?] Robotlings. He also has command of the Dreadnought, an incredibly vicious fighting machine. Only the smartest and bravest GSG-Commander is victorious. Fame and honor beckon as a reward. And maybe even the promotion to Galactic General.

There's a big story section on the right I haven't translated yet using the auto translator.

The German Rank tiles are different!

Colonel
First Lieutenant
Galactic General (black on the back)
Not sure about the rest... anybody have these?

I'm curious what the "Chaos Player" (Alien) ranks look like in this edition.

Edit: found more pics... not sure what a "Topper" is, but there's a Chaos General, that's different.

I have only begun to start looking at cards wondering about differences. The mysterious "Ork Mechanic" card introduced a "Devastator" that nobody knows what it was meant to be, but this translation seems to put it as a Black Hole Blaster, which is of course the Plasma Gun.

Found this... page

I want to see the story pages of Angriff der Eldar (4 & 5) and some of those mission details. I'm very curious what they contain. Might be able to get some pictures later...

I've never played "Angriff der Eldar" though I had that expansion.

Have fun! If you play the evil guy, try playing like a DM would do it. Take your liberties when playing with a single squad or with three squads. And have fun!

Thanks for the advice! I probably will try to do that. I'm already working on tweaking the cards a little, but not too much until I really learn the game (been studying the manuals)... approaching this one with a little more humility since I didn't grow up with it like I did HeroQuest.

Re: Translating German StarQuest + PC game extras

I see there is various lore for the "Ogryn" in Warhammer 40K. They are actually mutant variants of humanity (much like the "squats" aka Space Dwarfs) who are not very intelligent but very strong, yet they are usually fighting for the Imperium, though there are also Chaos Ogryn (in the computer games they're bad guys).

I see how in the computer games they made the doorways take up two squares, so that characters could be standing in a doorway when the door is "closed" crushing them to death.

Locating the many German cards with high enough resolution to apply a translation has proven difficult but a few examples exist that are interesting...

The Eldar Weapons are called:

Shuriken Slingshot (Shuriken Launcher)
Holo Launcher (missile/rocket launcher)
Las-Thrower (Las cannon or laser rifle)

Melee is often simply referred to as "close combat."

Spaces are often rendered as "fields" but it's the same thing.

In the GSG-Tiger cards (Blood Angels) here's a card that reads:

Mini-Laser (picture of bolt pistol)
The Mini-Laser is a handier version of the standard laser specifically for close combat.

Shocker (picture of bolter)
Shocker. Can deliver electrical shocks at short distances that paralyze an opponent's will to attack.

In the GSG-Musketeer (Imperial Fists) cards there's a piece of equipment called a "Lifter" that lets the Heavy Weapon fighters move like those with bolters via anti-gravity suspension.

For GSG-Tiger Order cards (called "Command" cards):

Photon beam!
This command blinds and confuses Robotlings with an intense flash. Usually used before hand-to-hand combat.
(green side):
Each Chaos figure you attack in melee throws one white die less than normal. Remove the card after use.

In the Alien Event deck some cards are rendered slightly differently.

For example "Suicide Android" reads:

Suicide squad.
Any android blows itself up after dragging. Roll 2 red dice. Each piece on an adjacent square is attacked with full score.

(not sure what "dragging" is, that might be a limitation of the translation)

Super Crack Missiles (Eldar Attack) is called "Super Holo."

I believe the german rendering of the Alien Event card "Booby trap" is "Tripmine"

Tetmine
Target GSG fighter (not a commander) steps on a mine: Lead a holo launcher attack against the field he's standing on.

Though not using these StarQuest variant lore yet... we played our first MULTIPLAYER game of Space Crusade two nights ago. You can watch the REPLAY here. GG!
